The fact is the defence is poor and needs some quality and experience in there to mentor the younger players. Johnny Evans is at best a substitute and Jones is still developing and lacks judgement with his tackling. As for Fellaini; he was a panic buy last season and not the sort of player we need.
All this criticism is fair but in my eyes the real issue is at the very top of the club structure with both owners and a chief exec who fail to reassure. Its all well and good having billion pound deals in place and a global fanbase but tomorrows young fans will go elsewhere if we fail on the pitch over a few seasons. Steps need to be taken now to make sure we don't repeat last season but it is too early to panic after just one game.
evra could be a big loss for utd, players like vidic, rio and evra may be veterans but they aren't any worse than the likes of evans, jones and smalling, you could do with another striker too as van persie might not stay fit, welbeck and hernandez are rubbish, maybe someone like remy as a squad player
Shaw will be fine when he returns from injury but players like Evra, Vidic and Giggs can only be replaced by bringing in top, established quality. We have no young players with the exception of Januzaj who can hope to reach those heights. Jones looked to be real quality but seemed to forget how to tackle as soon as we bought him. We have a history of buying good players who turn to crap before the ink has dried on the contract. In the late 70's Gary Birtles was one of the best strikers around, then we bought him from Forest and the twat couldn't hit a barn door at two paces lol. Yesterday we had young Black in the squad who last season spent most of his time in the championship on loan, sat on the bench at Blackpool (I think it was Blackpool). Bit of a step up and shows our lack of depth atm. Still if van Gaal can turn him into a gem I won't complain
I too don't blame Van Gaal - he is not a miracle worker - not even a magician like Paul Daniels could turn the useless pair of smalling and jones into defenders - even william prunier wasn't as clueless as smalling!

the person i blame is that useless Ed woodwood he should be fucked straight off - two summer transfer windows and he's fucked them both up. Evans i think is ok as long as he has someone decent alongside him - still missing a leader on the pitch that we have been lacking since Keane left - someone to bollock the players and lead.
Another problem for LVH is that few teams fear going to Old Trafford anymore with the current line up and not sure what type of funds he has to spend to bring in top players before deadline.
The defeat on Saturday might turn out to be a positive thing for Man Utd in a way, because it might give them greater urgency in the transfer market over the next 2 weeks.

He is not quite a United player yet. United have said the deal, which is worth £16m, is subject to a medical and personal terms.
Sporting have confirmed that Nani, 27, is returning on loan, seven years after the winger joined United from Lisbon.
The deal is no surprise as Rojo said on Argentinian radio yesterday that it would be a dream to play at Manchester United and last week refused to train with Sporting due to his frustration at not being allowed to leave, although he subsequently apologised for this.
United's twitter feed stated that" A further announcement will be made when the process is complete,"
In a statement released to the Lisbon stock exchange, Sporting released the payment schedule agreed with United for the player.
Sporting will receive £8m immediately, with further instalments of £4m being paid on 1 December this year and 1 July, 2015.
In addition they will get 20% of any sell-on fee for Rojo over £18.4million.
Rolleyes oh dear the Loserpool troll strikes again in the United thread Wink
Ashley young is a united player and a bird shit in his mouth... its on topic Wink

if you look closely, the substance that appeared to go into his mouth actually goes behind his head and the shit in his mouth was produced by his own body (ie it's saliva). it's one of those optical illusion circumstances where everything has to happen at the perfect time.

shame, i wish with all my heart that it was bird shit but the pedanticness in me has won through! Smile
