I've refrained from the discussions in this thread up to now because the covid news makes me depressed. So I'm just going to make this one post because I am devastated by this press conference today.

It doesn't make sense. There's been effectively three waves of this already and this government are still clueless with the decision making. Quite a lot of my friends have caught the virus and were seriously ill, some have still got occasional long covid symptoms.

I see people getting on buses without any masks, and it's too many people in my view for them all to have exemptions. I see people in restaurants and pubs without masks and again, it seems to be too many for them all to have exemptions.

It seems that the attitudes have laxed and the government's announcement today will promote further laxing and / not caring. They say to people remain cautious and five minutes later they're scrapping almost everything.

I mean WTF??? Sad
Boris is running scared of his back-benchers...
I think it is a very good thing that they have finally accepted that people will get covid and that will keep happening for ever but now over 99% will not die from it thanks to the jab so there is no need to stop people living there lives ,
If you look into it there are as many scientists saying this is the right thing to do but you don't see them in the news as it don't fit what the news wants to spread,
This is a long time overdue it doesn't matter anymore how many of have covid it's all.about how many die, if the jab keeps it flu levels of killing less than 50000 a year then that's very acceptable at the moment it looks like it will be far below that level,

I wonder how he will explain this to the Queen..I bet she is just as confused as we are...

Reckon his backbenchers are sharpening their pen knives already....

TBH I think for a long time we needed to find a way to live with this virus and we now have to accept it will be around for a very long time to come. The Govt acted way too slowly to the originally and feel it has played catch up ever since. I do agree with his assumption that it is down to us as individuals now how we approach this andc I do hope that we all take responsibility now for how we do things, how ever I think the difficulty is breaking that link between cases and hospitalisations/deaths with the vaccine is probably going to be something of an uphill struggle especially if this variant really does take hold & mutates further, the link should have been completely broken some time ago and to hear itb is not completely severed worries me.

Whether we can get it down to flu like levels is another thing. I think it could be at least possibly another year or two before we could even see that happening but what we do need to see is a far better sharing of evidence between nations of emerging new variants that allow us time to develop vaccines that protect us.

I strongly disagree Winsaw. Name me a year in the last 10 when 50,000 people died of flu in the UK. In fact an average of 10,000 people die of flu each year & in a bad year up to around 25,000. You though seem to be happy for 5 times the average deaths to occur.

I am in favour of controlled relaxation of restrictions based upon the evidence. This move by the government does not meet that test as they are removing all controls at a time when the Delta variant is running amok. One thing we know from the science is that this virus mutates and whatever the next variant is could sadly be more deadly yet Johnson seems happy for more people to die.
Did I really just read that up to 50,000 would be considered "very acceptable'?

Christ on a fucking bike!
^i'm going to hazard a guess and say winsaw probably meant 5000.

It's a return to their previous work for some of the Babeshow girls.

yeah. we could see a few babeshow babes go back to working at the clubs or whatever job they were doing before the pandemic.

but these babes may decide to carry on working on the shows, just not appearing as often
