Quote: Encouraging piece in Daily Mail by South African doctor who first alerted the world to Omicron. She says it's symptoms generally very mild, even with no vax, and accusses PM Johnson of 'Hysteria'. If she is right - if - then perhaps latest UK measures are more political than medical.

It could have been belivable if this hadn't been tweeted by Andrew Neil, quoting a right wing paper on the day that there's a vote tonight about vaccine passports.

I smell a rat. bladewave

go and look up the data its all out there , i shouldn't just be dismissed as it comes from Africa there Doctors and Scientists are just as smart as our ones, and they are ahead of us by over a month in how it reacts, everything coming out of SA suggests its now more like a traditional winter flu to put it in simple terms, far more people will get it but far less will die, i am very hopeful that by this time next week we will start seeing the first concrete data from Europe that will hopefully follow the African data

Make up your mind.

I’m not in any of those groups but I know people who are and I have no issue with their right to say no…unlike you.
just catching up on the news, i see all the red list county has been scrapped today as it didn't work ,
chairman Nicole has put new restrictions in for the Scots
Public asked to limit social mixing over Christmas to three households.
Social distancing required in shops and hospitality.
Some sectors to have legal duty to work at home
its important to note that the first one will not be in law so no one has to do it,
she said she wanted do a proper lockdown but as her gov is bust and dependent on hand outs from Westminster she could not do more, hardly shows that they could run a independent county lol
^ New restrictions, so being a responsible leader (terrible party overall still), but at least she was proactive, unlike the Tory cunts in London.

I’m halfway with you.

The more people are vaccinated, the less likelihood that the virus has something to feed on, which is better for all of us. Nevertheless, it is still sticking a foreign substance in your body … I get why someone wouldn’t want to do that.

I have a couple of colleagues who are young and healthy, who’ve made the decision that they would sooner take a small known risk with the virus than a small unknown risk with the vaccine. I don’t have a problem with that.

But I confess that I’m a little anti-anti-masking. Outside a tiny minority of people who have legitimate health reasons for not wearing one, I do not see the downside to it. It presents absolutely NO risk to the person wearing it, but it does reduce the risk to people in their vicinity.

I don’t wear a mask to protect myself. I wear a mask to protect other people from me. I really feel that not masking up is just being selfish. We would shun someone for being rude enough to smoke while others are eating; why should we tolerate people who are too vain to consider other people’s health above their own vanity and comfort?

Some will say that there is mixed evidence about whether or not masks even work. Fair enough. But they can’t possibly hurt. So what’s the problem? What precious freedom are we stamping on by mandating masks? The right to show their beautiful faces?

I just don’t get it.

100% agree!! It is just rebellion!! It has consequences for others though, so should be called out!! Personally, I have always been in favour of compulsion - particularly with vaccines. For NHS/Care workers now - and belatedly to put it mildly, will be compelled to be vaccinated! Long overdue!!

The health secretary stood against compulsion for the wider society however. I don't understand that, and he gave no good reason except that he was against it ...........just because. Like a parent trying to shut their child up...........just because!! is no reason - let alone a mature approach - at all!

That would suggest that we know more about the virus, in the short-term, than we do about the vaccine. In both cases the scientists/experts are constantly learning. In the long-term who knows. We know that long-covid is an actual thing, but for how long ? some are still suffering the effects, children included. We don't, & can't possibly know the long-term risks of being infected with covid & having a covid vaccine, in equal measures. Granted these vaccines have, in some cases been developed differently to previous ones. but the basic principles apply, & we've had decades of flu-vaccinations, with no ill-effect, to my knowledge.
These vaccines have undergone more testing than any other drug in the history of man, albeit in a short time-frame, & with the world working together in many cases to achieve the end result, vaccines that work, save lives, & & are as safe as any previous drugs.
I respect younger peoples decisions to not get vaccinated, but many are making their choice from a personal standpoint, a selfish attitude, it's about the bigger picture, they're not team-players.
Vaccines are the most important piece in the jigsaw to fight this pandemic, but mask wearing, hygiene & reducing social contact all play vital parts in controlling the spread. I use the word control, & I see this at the centre of many peoples reluctance, to play their part. They don't like being told what to do, well tough, get real, children don't like being told what to do, but your suppose to be adults. A level of control is required for society to function, & safely. Anarchy sounds fun, but I'd bet that the anti-vaxers lives would be more at risk in those circumstances.
I hope we remember all this the next time there is some natural disaster in Wales, or a minor flood in Shropshire, or a terrorist attack in London, and everyone races to trot out that tired cliche about the ‘indomitable British bulldog Blitz Spirit’ blah blah blah…

It’s nonsense.

This is when we needed ‘blitz spirit’. And it turns out … we ain’t got any!
