Strangely, there's someone, also by the name of Theresa May, who has consistently, and repeatedly, ruled out an early election:

Theresa May rules out early general election or second EU referendum if she becomes Conservative leader

Five times Theresa May ruled out a snap general election

Here are all the times Theresa May said there would be no election

Can't be the same person, surely? Huh Rolleyes laugh

Yes, I think it's as much about putting the next election forward to 2022 as it is about annihilating Labour.
The sudden about-turn makes me wonder if they now realise we're going to well and truly shafted by the EU... bladewave

It doubtless won't happen, but I'll laugh myself into a coma if Gove and/or Boris don't get re-elected.
Politicians, they're all a waste of space! Just elect Rebecca Kelly as PM. Her policies cant be any worse than Theresa May's but her news conferences will be much more worth watching!
Seems someone at the Parliamentary Labour Party meeting was heard to say they should return to their constituencies and prepare ......... to read the job ads in the Guardian. MP's in seats deemed at risk were referred to as "our nearly departed members"

One thing the snap election has done is prevented any sitting Labour MP's being deselected in favour of Momentum backed candidates (Labour's NEC have said that all sitting MP's will be automatically reselected as there is insufficient time to do anything else).
At least some people might seize the opportunity to kick out an unelected PM we never got that chance with Gordon brown did we? but it will be almost a year to the day that we had the referendum, but how tactically will people vote n the local election next month? I think Labour will take some heavy damage locally but it will be nothing compared to the damage they could suffer nationally...

famous last words..

Could the BNP pock up any votes I wonder if people didn't vote UKIP?
BNP are Litrally spent as a political force in the UK they only put up 8 candidates in the last election. think most of there voters went to ukip Tongue Tongue Tongue think they lost there councillers in the last council elections as well
hope the majority of people in mays constituency the 54% who voted remain dont take her opponents comment to heart or she could lose her seat Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue
what's the betting that Conservatives lose in Gower and N Derby but gain City of Chester & maybe Ealing and increase in Croydon?
