No the EU just threated the UK every step of the way, it was the EU demanding their own way before negotiations even started it was Junker that was bitching about the meeting the other week.
May had to call an election becasue remianers were moaning she wasn't a genuinely elected PM, people were using this and other things to attack her all along the way.
May took time to get together a plan for Brexit that wasn't there following Cameroons referendum.
May THEN had to contend with people challanging the ligitamcy of Brexit and fight court cases.
May had to pick up the peices.
What did you expect? Article 50 to be triggered the day after Brexit with no plan?
May has actually been the model of patience considering all the shit she has had to put up with.

I doubt it was that, especially as it was only council elections. There is just no point to UKIP any more and I think they'll be wiped out in the general election as voters move back to the Tories.
