True babechannels werent around before some date. 1990? But there used to be at least one pub per estate with strippers two a week and occasional stag dos. Gone. More recently it was pole dancing clubs, heavily regulated, expensive licences, not as many as the pubs and more expensive but around. Going. Trouble is old forms of entertainment have been banned, replacements have sprung up but each time the authorities help themselves to another piece of control, more regulation. Give it a few years and newsagents will stop selling mags (unprofitable) and the internet will be regulated to death.

There are plenty of people who post exclusively in the "Other" section.

if its done properly then no, but the whole concept of this petition is flawed, as I have said you need 100,000 signatures.
the only real promotion of the campaign is to a forum of 52,000 members, 47,000 of them dont even use the forum.
The only promotion i can see of this is in a few peoples signatures, wheres the facebook campaign? wheres the twitter campaign? who has written to Ofcom or an MP to discuss their concerns and asking for a round the table meet? where is this in the press? have you contacted adult magazines or channels to get promotion of the issue?

Im all for supporting anyone standing up for something they feel strongly about (as ive said about 4 times in this thread now) but do it properly and with intent, a thread that is literally the same 4 or 5 people thinking they are changing the world by begging for signatures and continuously saying how unfairly they are being treated is not an interesting read and is not encouraging involvement.
Today another milestone has been reached as we have now hit the 600 mark, but it's not going to be enough, but nonetheless a big congratulations to eccles for coming up with the idea in the first place, it's just a great pity that ultimately it is going to prove to be fruitless. I honesty think we'll be lucky to see 700 going by the length of time it's taken to get this far, anyway another milestone has been reached, it would be great to get a late surge before the cut off point on the 18th August however Cool
Beaten with the news by Scottishguy! Thanks for following so closely.

It reached 500 on 6 Jan and 550 on 5 Feb, so the most recent 50 took 2 months, about in line with my impression of about 1 a day. For reasons that elude me it went almost dormant during February and March. I know people will disagree but the pace has picked up a fraction over past fortnight. At this rate it might reach 720 by the cut off date. Dissapointing, and not earth shattering, but still important to register opposition. Have to see what can be done.
Do you think if you spread the word on twitter or facebook would that help?Huh

Yes, it would help if we all would. There must be communities out there where many people have an interest in the subject. If you can do that without offending granny please do.
Current total 602 - What this does do is illustrate that more people have signed this petition than have made complaints to Ofcom with regard to the babe channels. So we've all known for some time that this isn't going to reach the desired total of 100,000 to be considered worthy of a debate in the house of parliament but it might still make some difference as this will no doubt be looked at on the government website and all we need is some like minded MP to look upon taking this further. The actual number who would like to see an end to needless Ofcom censorship is probably a lot greater but fear of putting their real name on the petition has probably become something of a stumbling block for many. Who know's what difference this petition has made, one thing that is guaranteed is the Ofcom saga is inevitably going to drag on, it may look right now that all the doors have been closed on us but so long as you still have hope then anything is possible. I allways hope that tommorow is a better day and remain positive that the victorian values that we have currently will inevitably change for the better one day.

Thats a truly brilliant point.

There are under 100 complaints a year and only about 20 are investigated.

Names are not published or available outside the petition team.
The privacy statement clearly states that names and addresses will only be used to check they are genuine - under the Data Protection Act it would be illegal for the relevant Minister, local MP or even David Cameron to see them.

Obviously fake names like M Mouse or Bigtitliver44dd might be rejected if they ever get checked, and so might 40 signatures from the same address (particularly if it is 10 Downing Street), but I see nothing legally or morally wrong with putting a believable version of your name - using your mothers maiden name or your middle name, so you identity does not leap out.

The petition website is NOT checked against the electoral register and cannot be - people move, have temporary addresses, students have multiple addresses, and people who are UK resident but not voters can sign petitions.
