is that an increase?

That's not always the case, if it is a emergency you ring 999 and ask for the Police, that's if the Police is the emergency service you require.

But for non emergency's you ring 101, you are then put through to a Police call centre operative, you can report non urgent crimes, ask advice on various matters, give the police information, ask to speak to a specific Police officer etc..

So it is wrong to say you only call the Police in a emergency .
The Police are very happy to speak to the general public on various non urgent matters and give advice, so long as people call 101 and not 999 in order to do so .
Emergency is usually something that is life-threatening or disorder to likely cause injury such as stabbings, car crashes, riots etc. I know you can call the Police on non-issues IF you ring 101 and they are happy to do so BUT these idiots use 999 for this and it is wrong because it prevents(as it would do with the fire service, coastguard or ambulance) them from doing their main job. The public need to be educated on this-to phone up and complain about something stupid like an out of date packet of biscuits OR not getting your third saveloy with your chips is mind-numbling boneheaded of people.
However to make a hoax call to ANY of the emergency services is even more stupid and attacks on the said services show that some people just don't value those services. It is if you like a massive version of Cry Wolf!
24 arrests have been made recently in connection with the devastating bushfires in Australia and charged with arson. Would not surprise me if many of them have connections to the Extinction Rebellion lunatics and hope they are jailed for a good few years in solitary confinement so they don't upset other prisoners

I did however have a chuckle when you suggest that hardened criminals were in danger of being upset by a group of green activists Big Grin
This thing with Harry & Meghan - Disappointed to say the least as Harry is probably more popular of the two with many, that they didn't inform the Queen & the family before they put their statement out, but I do think it does mean that this is Meghan's doing & probably Harry had little day in it. I would be very surprised if the Queen didn't strip him of his HRH, but I wonder how Diana would have taken it.
I doubt very much that it's Meghan's doing, he's not a fan of the spotlight, and rightly, is pissed off at how his wife has been treated.
The Queen won't do anything to him, don't read anything into what the shitty papers are putting out there. Bringing Diana into it is just sad.
There's worse news for Harry & Meghan. Their waxwork models have been removed from the Royal Family display at Madame Tussauds.
