The Lucy Letby case is very disturbing.
For the despicable crimes she committed and her refusal to attend court for the impact statements and sentencing of course.
The whole life order is wholly justified.

But also because seemingly countless concerns raised by medical professionals were not heeded or sufficiently investigated by hospital management at the time. If it is true that medical professionals were warned that if they did not stop their calls for investigation that 'there will be consequences' then this is unbelievably reprehensible conduct.
It's bad enough to threaten those medical professionals that are genuinely trying to save lives. But to silence them and wilfully not investigate properly the conduct of a nurse who could be doing immense harm to defenceless babies is totally unforgivable and in my opinion should warrant extremely severe penalty for those managers involved.
To my mind there is a clear suspicion of wilful neglect resulting in numerous deaths and attempts to cause further deaths. Anyone found to be guilty of this needs to be hunted down and forced to take responsibility. It is completely unacceptable.

The families of the deceased are left with emptiness and a sense of betrayal forever. My heart goes out to each and every one of them.
It is so desperately sad.
It's not the first time someone who has committed the most heinous of crimes has refused to attend their sentencing.
They should be made to attend, by force if necessary, taser and drag the murdering scum by their hair if need be.
They see not attending as being their last act of trying to hold control of the court. As for the management those who knew somethi g was wrong and did nothing, should be stripped of their pensions, no severance pay and kicked out of the NHS and banned from working in social care and hospitals in its many forms - EVER repeat EVER again. They should be made to go through the court and be questioned by those bereaved and made to pay for therir negligence and hope the families get the thousands in compensation they are owed by those who let them down, for allowing a twisted person like Letby be enterusted with babies.
I'm in the "drag the fuckers into court kicking & screaming" camp too, however there are issues with it, not least the safety of the staff needed to do it and the risk of the defendant disrupting proceedings and causing further distress to the families.

At the very least there should be a secure room in the court with vandal-proof monitors & speakers where scum like Letby can be forced to hear & see what's being said. They can be shackled to the wall and have their eyelids glued open as far as I'm concerned.
^^ I see our forum vigilante is on the rampage again. Perhaps it would be best for a thorough examination of all the circumstances to be made before we start wheeling the guillotine out.
It's the nagging feeling that at least some of these deaths could have been avoided that really bugs me. The lingering finger of suspicion points towards hospital bureaucrats intent on stopping the hospital reputation being tarnished at best and an inadvertent cover up at worst.
This by virtue of either insufficient or no action taken at critical junctures.

Judging by the family impact statements one of the consequences of what has happened is that families no longer have the same faith or trust in the medical profession.
And yet it appears some key medics were ignored or threatened or both upon reporting concerns about one of their own.
This is deeply worrying.
The overall effects for all the families is devastating. Letby has the sentence she deserves despite not attending court.

The families are condemned to a sentence of eternal grieving, emptiness and thoroughly unmerited guilt.
I just don't understand it, the woman is evil beyond words, she was flagged to her bosses, she wasn't investigated and when the truth comes out, it is horrifying.
Surely those that ignored the reports about her should be charged with something, at the very least they should lose jobs/be demoted.

It seems that there is even more to this https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023...-liverpool

A life sentence should mean whole of life, like this, life sentences that aren't that, well they need to be renamed to something else.
^Have a read up on the details of the Beverley Allitt case. The similarities are pretty scary.

I did catch someone saying on a news programme yesterday that they call it a life sentence because it stays with you for life and you can be recalled to prison after completing any minimum term if you step out of line.

Frankly if you kill, rape or sexually abuse someone then if feeding you to the pigs isn't an option you should see out your days behind bars.
UK Air Traffic control is down. There's going to be major delays.
At the same time the ULEZ number plate checker website is hit by technical difficulties.

Are we having a cyber attack or are there other reasons. For example drivers checking race to see if their cars will fall foul of London's expanded emission zone before it kicks in from midnight.

And don't forget that the forum's again running slow Wink
