^^ I think that it's often the egos of some of the top players that hate to win, with what thy consider to be a high score. Historically when you look back at our Open winners, in the early days they would be over par, but still impressive, given the equipment they used.
I'm a bit cruel, & enjoy to see pro struggle on tough courses, especially in wind & rain. it really wouldn't be worth my while being a club member, if I decided not to play in poor weather conditions.
Many have complained that some of the greens at Augusta are too severe, but I like to see top players tested. It is often said that a decent amateur would struggle to break 100, but I'd love to have the chance. Having played The Old Course at St Andrews, it's not hard, unless the wind blows.

As long as it is not unplayable, then I do too!! Actually I recall in the relatively early stages of Rory McIlroys career, him playing at St Andrews in the rain. He gurned (as we would say) and yapped about the conditions and how they were not suiting his game. Along came - a few weeks later, Paula Cramer in the womens open, in similar conditions, and when asked what she thought of playing in them, she responded by saying it is what it is (or words to that effect) just deal with it! I thought good on her, and are you listening Rory!
Fitzpatrick moves up to 10th in the Golf World Rankings, after his US Open win. Rory is up one spot into 2nd, with Rahm down one in 3rd. Scheffler consolidates his No.1 spot after he tied for 2nd, with Zalatoris who rises to 12. Another notable mover was Morikawa, up from 7th to 4th.
Padraig Harrington held off Steve Stricker to win the Senior Open thing.
Schauffele won the Scottish Open.
Is there any confirmation about Henrik Stenson being stripped of Ryder Cup captaincy if he is joining the Saudi tour?

the Ryder Cup teams will probably look different on both sides I wonder bu I do fear Europe may be the weaker of the two
Seve
A Sky Documentary about the late, great Spanish golfer, from his humble beginnings, through his 70s/80s heyday, to his 90s decline, save for Ryder Cup glory. The love and sorrow that many had for him was palpable, and even some of the Americans whose noses he got up had to take their hats off to him.
Monty, by Colin Montgomerie (2011)
Rotund Scottish golfer captains successful Ryder Cup team and writes book. As good a reason as any; I read Darren Clarke's book, written after his Open win too. I was bemused that after often referring to genial Scottish broadcaster Dougie Donnelly by the nickname "Colin Montgomerie's stunt double", it turns out that Dougie helped Colin meet his 2nd wife. He was rueful about his Major near misses, but proud of his Order of Merit wins (and the Ryder Cup too).
Rory came from 6 shots behind to win the FedExCup, for a record 3rd time, & an $18m (£15.3m) jackpot.
Patrick Reed would be an unpopular winner in todays BMW PGA Championship from Wentworth. Now reduced to 3 rounds, the LIV player is the current leader by one stroke, & has 3 holes to play. However the last groups have yet to start.
