Bryson De Chambeau has been hitting the ball ridiculous distances since the golfing restart.
Just seen him smash the ball 280 yards out of the rough on to a green Surprised.
^^ The guy's an animal, he's try to achieve a swing speed of 200 mph. He's having to spin his left foot out through impact to prevent himself from breaking something.
To put this into some perspective an average male amateur golfer is 93.4 with a 214 yard average distance.
He will be getting a hole in one on a par 5 soon at this rate Bounce
^^ On a 393 yard hole, he let his playing partner play out of turn because he was waiting for the green to clear !
Bryson made a few mistakes down the stretch, but still won.
I'm not a big fan of big hitters overpowering great old golf courses, but can only admire what this guy has done. Seems a decent bloke as well. Important
The Memorial Tournament sees the return of Tiger to the PGA Tour. He's a 5 times winner at this event & is tied with Sam Snead on 82 PGA Tour wins.
This week was set to be the first with spectators after 5 events played with no fans, but the Tour has announced that the remaining 9 events will take place behind closed doors, after coronavirus cases continue to soar in the US.
Loopers - The Caddie's Long Walk
This was on Sky Docs, narrated by Bill Murray. A look at the history of the golf caddy, and famous examples where caddies and players have been a strong team. The Augusta Masters was synonymous with caddying, and earnings have rocketed in the last 25 years as a result of Tiger Woods and others drawing sponsors in. Bill himself spoke fondly of serving his time as a caddy too. A lovely tribute prog.
Tiger had to battle to make the cut at the Memorial after shooting a 4 over par 76, he's 12 shots behind joint leaders Tony Finau & Ryan Palmer. Big hitting Bryson DeChambeau missed the cut after a 10 on the par 5 15th.
Jon Rahm won the Memorial Tournament & has replaced Rory Mcllroy as World No.1. He becomes the 2nd Spaniard to hold the rank after Seve Ballesteros.
I find it hard to credit that Garcia at least has never been #1. Olazabal and Jiminez, fair enough.
^^ Segio has to be one of golfs greatest underachievers. Just the one major with all his talent, although he narrowly missed out at The Open in 2007, beaten by Harrington in a play-off at Carnoustie.
