I believe so, there were quite a few well-known faces on that show and he also starred in an episode of 'The Adventure Game' as well. How that man has not been given some sort of gong is beyond me.

Speaking of Miss Great Britain, I can remember getting quite excited going to my Grandpa's flat with my Dad and we would sit and watch Miss World-why we went out I don't know-but it was fun trying to work out who we thought would win. One absolutely gorgeous woman Miss Guam, Kimberley Santos had virtually no competition in the 80's and she easily won which made a change from Miss USA or other blonde girls winning. Unlike Eurovision at least Miss UK/Great Britain was in with a chance of winning. Incidentally a young Welsh girl called Sian Adey-Jones won and she went on to be one of the best Page 3 girls around as well as later a hot Bond background girl.

Our metalwork teacher absolutely hated the existence of that show...he was an absolute dead ringer for the Penfold character, the nickname took hold after the very first episode...once he got wind of it and realised where it had come from he went absolutely nuts...hated it.
Of course us being evil swines, the fact that he hated it just made us call it him all the more

Ah yes board games(as seen on the Images thread) Never played Ker-Plunk! but did play Mousetrap, Connect 4, Battleships(with pegs) and a card game called LEXICON which we still have AND an original CLUEDO game. I remember playing Snakes and Ladders and LUDO and we also had one of those Compendium games thing. I did play CHESS and some how managed to beat a friend of mine, who was very good at it, once but it might have been a fluke. I certainly played Top Trumps and Mastermind as a kid(still got that as well) and MONOPOLY wasn't too bad. One of my favourite games(which I was rather good at) was TRIVIAL PURSUIT and since then I have beaten just about anyone who challenged me. There were so many games around back then but I also used to play SCRABBLE(the travel version) on my own and scored pretty highly. Other games I played were SUBBUTEO football with friends(again I still have some of that) and a game that didn't actually get widely released based on the Guinness Book of Records which was really fun-shame it didn't catch on.
I had a thought the idea(yeah another one
) but did any of you ever suffer the cane, slipper or hand as punishment at either primary or secondary school? I only ever received the cane once, just a tap but it was enough, but the worst was a hand from my headmaster. All I did was drop a knife onto a plastic-coated plate by accident and I was told to go and see the headmaster. I went in. He got up, talked a bit and then told me to bend down. Next minute I feel a hand connect with my buttocks and a nanosecond later I shot across his room from the force of it. Naturally it hurt, however the next time I was told to go to his office I thought no way and made a break for it. Someone saw me run off and chased after me. I ran faster than he did and was gone before he could cough. I can't remember what happened after that but I think I did go back the next day and apologise which they accepted. So did you receive any kind of punishment, if so tell us here.
As mentioned elsewhere the worst was at primary school again but this time from a ruler across my inner arm by a particularly vindictive bitch of a teacher and it was in front of my sister. My arm went red and I was in tears from the pain as was my sister-my heinous crime? playing in the sandpit still after the bell had gone. When I got home I told my mother and she went berserk and flew up to the school to confront this woman "Don't you ever hit my kids like that again or I will call the police!" she screamed. Later when she died they asked pupils and parents to contribute to a memorial bench - we didn't give a single donation.
Yes, think I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread that I had the wooden ruler in Junior School. I was supposed to get it across the palm but me being a total non conformist idiot in those days, I had to go yank my hand away while doing a Hong Kong Phooey impression...
Net result being the sadistic git of a teacher whacked me across the knuckles instead..once for the original punishment and then again for my cheek.
It bloody hurt I can tell you..
My Dad steamed into the school the next day and had it out with the headmaster, now my Dad was one of those people you didn’t mess with, the sort of person who you could describe as a likeable rogue but who wasn’t afraid of anyone, he was a coal miner, and to do that kind of work for a living you had to be tough... I don’t know what was said but I wasn’t on the receiving end of any further physical punishments at school after that day.

What a great thread Greeny, it's brought back so many memories. I'm so glad I was growing up in the seventies rather than now, for all the so-called advantages modern kids have. Most of all we were lucky enough to be free range kids, I went far afield on my purple Chopper mark II, (with the T-bar gearshift, the mark I's had a knob) which was completely impractical but looked so cool, the best Christmas present ever,
