I never followed fashion, I didn't want my parents to shell out for something that was just to be like the rest. I didn't model myself on anyone, not being influenced unlike my friend who thought he'd like to be like Sting and Don Johnson(Miami Vice) complete with rolled up jacket sleeves! Big Grin
Ah Miami Vice-now that was a show and a half. Fast cars, exotic locations and hot babes-what wasn't to like. It went a bit odd later in the series but it featured a few famous faces like Elmo(the weird comedian) and Phil Collins as Phil the Shil. It was a big show in this country but it did stretch things credibility wise. How come a Miami cop(Sonny Crockett-Don Johnson) could afford a white Ferrari, a yacht and an incontinent alligator? On his salary? And also how did Philip Michael Thomas who played Riccardo Tubbs get to stay in Miami when he was a NEW YORK cop? The only infuriating thing about that series is you never found out who this Calderone was and what the Cartel actually did. I did like the opening sequence though showing two rather tasty young ladies in bikinis coming out of a building and being shot walking off waggling their bottoms!

Speaking of bottoms and other things how many of you were Baywatch fans? It had what I call MCS's * every week and of course most of that was on the girls in the background and Pamela Anderson, who had recently boosted her boobs, which wasn't needed because in her Playboy days she was absolutely stunning. David Hasselhoff had it good, surrounded by beautiful babes and some of the storylines were a bit far-fetched. The scenery was stunning but that stretch of beach they filmed on wasn't the cleanest according to a story that came out in the Sun later. It was phenomenally popular here though on a Saturday evening.

Me too, she was a real stunner. I loved those boobs Tongue
Your thanks button broken is it? Smile
Oh yes Erika Eleniak was a stunner and she uncovered those sensational boobs and that body in a certain Rabbit magazine and everyone took notice. I still think Pamela was sexier with smaller boobs. What about Alexandra Paul, she was very sexy too.
There were loads of home-grown cop and detective series weren't there. The Sweeney, Juliet Bravo, The Professionals, The Chinese Detective, an odd one Pulaski and The Bill of course. Television was more exciting because of the low-budgets they had to make them more true-to-life, filming in some run-down areas and at times being in places that looked depressed(as was the country at the beginning of the 1980's) but quite daring as at least some featured the obligatory meeting in some sleazy nightclub or strip joint-hello! strippers! quite an eye-opener to this callow youth. Everyone seems to remember the heat but hardly anyone mentions the ladybirds. I confess I had forgotten about them myself. I don't know if there's any scientific proof but I bet the two events were connected.
I think you're right, the heat triggered a sort of warm wind which seemed to pick them up OR it became warm after being strong; either way it was one of the most extraordinary sights I've ever seen.

The Sweeney was always a good bet for boobs, plenty of strip clubs and pubs were frequented by Reagan and Carter. I reckon my first on screen nipple action was courtesy of the Sweeney Tongue I remember the late, great Sean Hughes talking about it in one of his stand up shows Smile

Loved watching the Sweeney. Some unforgettable lines...‘Get yer trousers on..your nicked’ ‘We’re the Sweeney son, and we haven’t had any dinner’
