Wasn't the top tier closed all around ground which would limit the attendance

(04-09-2014 03:30 )William H Bonney Wrote: [ -> ]Not much to report about the Norway match. Rooney scored the only goal from a penalty, his 41st goal for his country, and is now 4th all-time England scorer. The attendance of 40,181 was the lowest for an England match at Wembley since it was re-opened in 2007.
I think England are at their true level now, Stirling and Sturridge can't carry 9 other players every game. Until you find a better manager nothing will improve.
^ Yep. Just like Brazil and their two decent players- Neymar & Oscar.
Hodgson got annoyed over the stats of England having two shots all game.
just shows how dogged Norway were to get some kind of result and avoid losing!!
To be fair to Norway, I think despite not having won a game this year, they probably could have quite a good campaign in qualifying, as they have some decent players in Flo & King that look decent threats in future.
England are, on the other hand looking more like a team that is totally lost, and needs a firmer hand on the tiller off the pitch. Sometimes Hodgson's decisions on Wednesday just didn't have the immediate impact that was needed.
And the back four is going to be a real concern on Monday, how will it stand up in a competitive international?

The top tier was only closed because it wasn't needed. The predicted crowd of 35,000 to 40,000 meant that a decision was made to leave the top tier closed and only open it if the attendance on the night turned out to be higher than expected.

So what you are saying is that Norway who have lost, not having won a game this year should have a good campaign, while England who actually won this game are no hopers. Don't see either squad dazzling anyone soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if they lose on Monday if the attendance gets lower for the first home qualifier. Maybe it is better if they did play some friendly matches away from Wembley for a while and charged
cheaper tickets. When Wembley has no atmosphere it makes less of a game. I wonder how many left before the end?

Scored one of the best goals of last season for Villa against a full strength Chelsea (i.e. one of the best club teams in the world, and one several notches above any Brazilian national team line-up/configuration currently available). See here if the goal's slipped your mind. Showing good anticipation, he intercepts a Ramires pass meant for Ivanovic in Villa's own half, sets off with the ball, wrong-foots Matic with a quick Zidane-like show-and-go, lays the ball off to the left, runs into the box, checks his run slightly to create a little pocket for himself, and then deftly side-flicks the ball being crossed at speed and slightly behind him into the far corner past Terry - stretching to get his head to it - and Cech. A small number of current players (Ronaldo, Messi, James, Di Maria) would've been able to as well, but none would've been able to do better, because Delph executed all that as well as it's possible to do. He needs to show more and show it more consistently, agreed, but that shows what he's capable of. Only people deliberately trying to compound stupidity will roll their eyes after watching that goal.

Sterling was awesome, seems to be playing well every game. Sturridge is just a selfish plonk who couldn't hit the target despite having more shots than any other player.
