Essex kept the heat on Surrey by wrapping up against Middlesex, while Hampshire - still with a sniff no matter how remote - did all they could against Somerset, who paid for a terrible first knock!
Northamptonshire, Kent and Middlesex all resume their quest for points to avoid relegation in the latest round of County Championship division one matches.

Kent are at home to Nottinghamshire.
Middlesex are at Old Trafford to play Lancashire while Northants are away to Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

In division two Leicestershire face Sussex at Hove in a bid to keep their promotion push going.

Lots to play for then on day one within a key round of matches.

Currently making a complete hash of it as well! Not sure what upset the Sussex Chairman, but he was in a right strop when being asked questions from frustrated Sussex supporters!
Leicestershire almost recovered to claim an unthinkable victory at Hove.
Chasing 499 to win they fell just short having been eventually bowled out for 483.
Sussex leapfrog Leicestershire into second place in division two by a few points.

What a finale to an engrossing match! Leicesterhire seem to have almost blown a promotion which, only a month or so ago, they seemed like a nailed on certainty to secure! Not over yet though, with Sussex winning today ensuring they still have a squeak too!
^ All the results from the latest round of the county championship!!

Draws at Kent, Lancashire in Div 1 and Glamorgan plus Gloucestershire in Div 2

Wins for Warwickshire in Div 1 and Sussex in an absolute gem Div 2

Nothing decided yet except Durham promoted back to Div 1 - congrats to them after being in a bit of a mess following ECB sanction - although just a matter of time before Surrey confirmed champions of Div 1!

Promotion for the second spot in Div 2 down to the wire, although long time challengers Leicestershire seem to have fallen away, although mathematically not! Worcestershire sitting pretty, also with the run in fixtures I think?

Div 1 relegation to join N'Hants surely gone, one from two! Middlesex/Kent? Too close to call, maybe bonus points might be the clincher one way or the other?? neither club have an easy finish!

I have said this before, the winner of the National Counties final should take their place in Div 2 of the CC from the club relegated. When is the final, or have I missed the result??
^^ Not you as well, after all we have been through, and now you want to relegate Yorkshire.Huhannoyed

Nice idea in principle, but it wouldn't work, the equivalent of awarding Test status to Ireland with nothing in place to ensure they could be remotely successful.
Great to see a Northern team bounce back after being overly punished for their financial issues. Talk about double standards, Middlesex get a much more lenient punishment, if you can call it that, as most is suspended, for exactly the same issues.
Look at all the international players supplied by Yorkshire and Durham, not much from Middlesex since Strauss. We need some levelling up.
Murderers get a fairer trail than Yorkshire. I actually though that the club would end up going into administration and would have to re-launch under a new name. But hey, if we accept the offer & sell out, we could become Rajasthanshire.
The division two promotion race could get really, really interesting.

Already promoted Durham could have a major say in who goes up in second place as they play 2nd placed Worcestershire and 4th placed Leicestershire in their final two matches.
If Durham beat them both the door is open for Sussex who currently sit in 3rd.
But will Durham rest players with promotion already sealed?
