A lot riding on the result at the MCG - winners progress losers are out.

Seems the mild mannered - well - spoken Buttler is a sore loser now too!

Thought in the initial post-match interview was fairly honest about his team's failings. Maybe now the dust has settled the enormity of the task ahead has sunk in & he's feeling the pressure.
One thing's for sure, he's no Morgan, a hard act to follow no doubt. Maybe equally inspirational with the bat, but Buttler doesn't possess the same aura that Morgan had.
We (England) owe so much of our white-ball success to the man from the Emerald Isle.

Not Half!!Wink How much further on would Ireland be had Morgan not jumped ship??
Match 25 Group 1 Afghanistan v Ireland MCG
Match Abandoned without a ball being bowled
Match 26 Group 1 Australia v England MCG (09.00 BST)
Match Abandoned
So where does that leave us?

That is a crucial point lost, especially with Australia to come! I am not sure of the permutations to come, but todays AUs/Eng abandoned match may benefit both at Irelands expense, since - rather than one or other being a point further back - they have each an extra number in the bank with relatively easier matches to come, while Ireland have Aus and NZ before Bangladesh....I think I have got that right??
Bloody weather annoyed
Match 27 Group 1 New Zealand v Sri Lanka - Sydney (09.00 BST)
New Zealand elected to bat
NZ 167- 7 Phillips 104 Mitchell 22 Rajitha 2-23
SL 109 (19.2 overs) Shanaka 35 Rajapaksa 34 Boult 4-13 Santner 2-21 Sodhi 2-21
New Zealand won by 65 runs
New Zealand looking strong contenders again! - they always do in the most important tournaments the sport has to offer. Somehow though, they falter at the finish line! Can this one be the rubicon that they finally get across??
