I would say Lewis would be very strong favourite for the SPOTY title but I would love to see Ben Stokes run him close. not many cricketers have been nominated for it in the past. IF AJ was to regain the heavyweight titles he lost, would he feature?

for TEAM of the year I would say it has to be between Liverpool (for their league challenge and CL win) & may be the Japanese rugby team (for the sheer performances they put in at the rugby world cup) and KLOPP has to be favourite COACH of the year.

What are your thoughts now guys?
If they'd won the Ashes, then yes, maybe Stokes. But I can't see it otherwise.
I think Stokes is a marginal favourite if I'm honest.
He produced World Cup final heroics but also won England a test match England had no business winning in the Ashes from a very difficult position.
Without that Australia may have won the Ashes outright.
Hamilton will challenge.
Dina Asher Smith and KJT should be up there too.
^Anthony Joshua's odds will only tumble if he regains his titles I guess
6 nominees announced.

Ben Stokes - Cricket
Dina Asher Smith - Athletics
Alun Wyn Jones - Rugby Union
Lewis Hamilton - Formula 1
Katarina Johnson-Thompson - Athletics
Raheem Sterling - Football
OK, Stokes' odds are improved to 1 in 5 (rugby, really?) now Wink

Why is the Ashes always the benchmark for what legitimises an English Cricketer receiving any accolade?? (except honour which for winning the ashes - or indeed the WC -nobody should receive recognition as high as an honour would reflect) Rob Key is the latest to drive a coach and horses through the idea of a World Test Championship, as he said that if it came down to it, England fans would see the Ashes as the top priority!! It is depressing!!

I simply don't know how they justify leaving Jonathan Rea off the list! With everything against him, he came through for another back - to - back title! He won't give a toss - I know - but it shows the farcical nature of this stupid spoty garbage! It should have been binned long ago, and the money saved put to proper PSB use! Hang on, in the minds of the decision makers at the BBC - it is by spending it on the likes of spoty!!HuhHuh
My prediction such as it is will be Lewis Hamilton, Ben Stokes and Dina Asher-Smith as 1,2,3.
I'll go with the odds and go Stokes, Hamilton then Asher-Smith
