The players can't be that bad - the same players won the premier league the season before Moyes was appointed and they won it with 6 matches to spare.
So the question is - why did Ferguson pick someone with such a different footballing ethos to himself as his replacement? Huh

He apparently wants the job. Some media reports are saying that he's already had a meeting with Man Utd.

I'm not sure if Louis Van Gaal is the right man, but whoever they go for he has his work cut out, the whole team needs rebuilding starting with an entirely new defence. Interesting times.

As a Crewe Alexandra supporter I have no more jealousy of Manchester United than I do of Manchester City or Liverpool. I just happen to think Moyes was good at producing battling teams who would finish higher in the league than you would think, based on their wagebill, but that just wasn't what Man Utd needed. Who will win the league this season? Probably Liverpool who have played with a swagger, which is not the Moyes way of doing things at all. I probably am a tormented soul as you say, because supporting Crewe Alexandra does that to people, but my point is still valid nevertheless, that Moyes may have been a decent Everton manager but he was never likely to be the right manager for Man Utd.
I think having sacked Moyes I think United's directors have to shoulder some blame. I think the loss of Gill when Alex retired, was probably why there probably a communication problem between the two as I think guy who replaced Gill probably had little concept of the way that the transfer system
works (and probably still does!!) Is it really going to cost them over £150m to rebuild the side? I'd love to know what players are coming through their youth system who could save them a few bob where possible!!
Now would they even be tempted to try and prise Mourinho away from Chelsea?

Van Gaal could be very interesting, going by this paragraph I've just read in The Independent:

He is certainly no respecter of reputations. Luca Toni, then a World Cup-winning striker with Bayern Munich, recalled: "Van Gaal wanted to make clear to us that he can drop any player from the team because he had ‘the balls’. He demonstrated this literally by dropping his pants. I have never experienced anything like it, it was totally crazy."
david moyes has already got a new job
