I just keep getting this 10% of the time, during those hours.

Thanks to aceman65 for reporting this problem (post 206), and thanks also to mucker (191), Sookyâ„¢ (195), Chilly (207) and quiquems (217) who reported the problem too. The cause of the error was a large number of requests to the database to provide the (long) listing of members who have been online in the last 24 hours.

There are 2 issues here, firstly that the list has got so long now, sometimes going to over 2,600 names and it's therefore a drain on the database to keep providing it, but more importantly that being on the index page it was being requested all the time, over and over again and the database was struggling to keep up. The index page is the most visited page in the forum and at busy times can be loaded about twice every second, so the database was being asked to churn that list out like crazy.

I've addressed the problem by moving this feature off the index page and putting it on the forum stats page. Anyone who wants to see this feature can therefore still access it, as it's working exactly the same as it was before, with the information just being displayed in a different location now, but the list won't be generated about 70,000 times every day like it was before. When the error message reported by the 5 people above occurred, the database was effectively refusing to produce the online today list for them, as the number of requests for the index page at the time the error messages were seen was close to 150 a minute.
Thanks Admin for the explanation. But can you explain why I keep getting messages like this one on Elites index page?

And Also similar messages, but with slightly different configurations, on other index pages!!!
Had a few tonight

Had this one after I clicked on the deselected quote after antecedently clicking the quote button on a post

Thanks for your report, mucker. This problem was due to some action taken by the host, who were adjusting some settings in order to try and give the forum better performance and eliminate the error messages we've been getting recently. Unfortunately the change they were making caused an effective outage of 17 minutes.
this one's so long it cant fit on the page.
