Soho 1960s

Lots of images for sale price around £180.00 per print but that is for a Gelatin Prints so magnificent quality, well worth a look

This is an interesting old picture I've found of the Beatles.

But where is it exactly? It looks like Soho in the 60s, especially with the strip club on the left, but I can't place the location.

Hello Elgar,
Interesting image, the main clue is the sign Blue Posts which is a pub on the corner of Ganton Street and Kingly Street however there are others, one being on the corner of Hanway Street and Tottenham Court Road, pulled down as part of a development that now houses Boots on TCR and an upmarket Japanese Restraurant on the site of the old Neal Akash restraurant in Hanway place. Plus one other guy has said there is a pub near Broadwick Street with the same name where Jessie Mathews was born.
I shall check to see if I have an image if not then I will be in the area before the weekend and come back

The arch in the picture should be a big clue I think, as it makes the passage quite distinctive, but I confess I'm no help at all with this. I can't recall ever seeing a passage like that in Soho. Perhaps the 1960s location was later demolished or perhaps it lies just outside of Soho in a street I have never ventured into. The only two things it reminds me of in Soho are the covering over Manette Street by the Pillars of Hercules pub and the cover over a part of Walker's Court.

Hi Elgar,
Found it, the location is Rupert Court, just of Rupert Street.
See the images attached, and while they do not look convincing I am certain I am right, the identifier is the pub, The Blue Posts.
The alley way is a building site and the scaffolding just about obscures the Blue Posts lamp but it is just visible.
Hope this helps
Hi
On my journey to Soho, took the attached of Walkers Court/Peter Street as it is now,
sad, shabby and a terrible shame but life moves on

Brilliant work Kev and I'm highly impressed! Smile

There's no doubt in my mind that you're right. Very interesting too, as I thought I'd explored every street in Soho, but I've no recollection of ever being in Rupert Court, otherwise I'm sure I would have recognised it.
Hi
I was in the area today and took some images of former places
No1 is the old Moulin Cinema now a restaurant with a plaque to Mary Millington.
No2 is the Windmill
No3 is the Building name for Maurice House in Walkers Court, this looks like it will be gone in the next few weeks

Yes Murray's Cabaret Club is well worth a mention here. It was where the Profumo scandal had its origins. Christine Keeler worked there as a topless showgirl, although she's said that in her case she actually performed naked. Some people maintained that the club was virtually a brothel.

Hello Snooper
Just to say I was in the area today and attached is an image of The Eve Club, Helen's place after Murray's looks good been completely refurbished but no charachter

I agree on both points. Brilliant work by Kev to find that location and I can't remember ever being there either.

Armed with Kev's info I've managed to find some references online to the Beatles being photographed in Rupert Court in July 1963 and have even found another picture of it.

So this is the confirmation that Kev is right, as we all thought he was.
