thats where your wrong Ireland has a deal with the UK called Common Travel area so that any irish national can access all of UK services including the FO and we have a reciprocal deal where Uk citizens can do the same. In fact would be as easy for me to move amd live in ireland as it would be to move to scotland now this is on top of the EU rights they have so guessing any scottish goverment would do the same

What are you on about? Huh

I said Ireland doesn't rely on the UK for embassies, it has 55 foreign embassies of it's own. What part of that do you not understand?

The Common Travel area is a different subject entirely. It just allows travel between the UK and Ireland without a passport.

How have you come to confuse 2 entirely different subjects?

RE: Scottish Independence
I am English but have to say that I like the Scottish people. They have played a major part in the running of the UK and I think it would be a major loss for both countries to go their own ways. As they say united we stand...divided, well we would both be weaker.

Mind you-if independence is voted for then I must insist that as part of that deal, that Scotland has to take Cameron. With a name like that he must have an ancestral home somewhere north of the border. Big Grin

According to that report published last week in an independent Scotland the functions of Ofcom will be transferred to a new Scottish regulatory body. This new regulator will co-operate with Ofcom "just as Ofcom and Ireland's ComReg co-operate at present".

RE: Scottish Independence
^ Sadly that is true. In fact I wonder whether the new Scottish Ofcom would be even worse than the current one, given the Calvinist/Presbyterian traditions north of the border?

I was reading about Christmas in Scotland recently and discovered that it wasn't until the 1960s that Christmas Day was celebrated in any meaningful way. Up until then it was regarded by the Scottish church elders as a 'Popish' festival and Christmas Day was just an ordinary working day. Extraordinary.

Never thought you were (a burden). I don't believe that many English do either.

We're not bothered about Cameron, but you're definitely getting Blair back. We're imposing a lifetime travel ban on Gordon Brown too.

Being serious for a moment, if the Scots want to go, the majority of England isn't really bothered one way or the other apart from the rabid Gordon Gecko types in the South East who think they pay for everything.

1 word of caution though, Salmond isn't the man to lead you out into the big, wide world..

Only 3 things in life are certain. Death, Taxes and lesbians will never look how they do in porn movies.

The UK has about 240 Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates worldwide. 12 in America alone and 10 in Spain (one of the most popular holiday destinations).

If you think 55 Embassies worldwide can provide anything like the same level of support and assistance to Scottish citizens abroad that they currently receive as UK citizens, then you're living in cloud cuckoo land.

I couldn't agree more! His stubborn attitude and condescending demeanour is everything I detest in a person, let alone a politician. Many like myself fear that this is just one big ego trip for him, because he doesn't seem to want to accept any argument which casts doubt on his claims re NATO, the EU, currency, etc.

I genuinely do worry that he talks people into his way of thinking, then leads us all into the biggest disaster ever to affect our entire nation.
