tho that is exactly how the game ends................

That's true of many myths and legends, Noah's Ark for instance. I thought Graham Hancock's (think that was his name) theory that flood myths originated from rising sea levels after the last ice age was interesting. As you can probably tell, I used to be really into that Fortean stuff - lost civilizations, cryptozoology, ghosts, UFOs and shit. I even joined a UFO group in my teens, though I blame that on my X-phile stage. Some of the people in that group were freakier that you could possibly imagine...
I gotta agree that I hope that the Atlantis idea isn't used too much as it would kinda feel "gimicky" but as all myths or legends may have a basis in reality maybe this Island or paradise/Eden was the origin of all these myths. On the official lost web site they identify the huge statue as the statue of the Egyptian goddess Taweret who is/was Set's concubine and the goddess protector of pregnant women... as well as a goddess who guided the dead into the afterlife. She was also a guard to the mountains of the west where the deceased entered the land of the dead. Many of the deities relating to birth also appear in the underworld to help with the rebirth of the souls into their life after death.Note that in the original seasons when the statue is destroyed that women on the Island can't give birth successfully, the only exception was when Juliette travelled back in time and helped with the birth of Ethan and Juliette sets off the bomb. What conection is meant by this?
Remembering my Egyptian Mythology,Set who is usually meant to be evil was in battle with Osiris,is this the unnamed guy at the start of the season finale and Jacob? The tapestry that Jacob weaved has ancient Greek words inscribed on it which say "may the gods grant thee all that thy heart desires" which is from Homer's Odyssey, and speaking of Homer's Odyssey note that Odysseus's wife is named Penelope who waits faithfully for many years for Odysseus to return to her, sound familiar....Penny and Desmond. Also just remembered about the one eyed Russian bloke who killed Charlie. There seems to be some eternal Good versus Evil battles being played out where 2 mortal or should that be immortal enemies cannot kill the other directly..the man in black/Jacob and Ben/Charles Widmore.Damn so many mysteries to solve,I wish that I could time travel to the future and watch the last season now. When it's over,it's going to be fun watching the whole 6 seasons and re seeing all the clues throughout finally knowing them.
lol - this thread is making me think just as much as the show, now Big Grin And I have learnt a ton about myth and legend Smile
To pick up on a few points:

skully Wrote:...before Jacob died (possibly), he said 'they're coming', was he referring to our out of time characters (since Juliet did set off the bomb), or somebody else?
Yes - Jack, Kate etc. would make sense - the 'chosen ones' that he touched. Either that or it could be a warning that 'they' are some kind of deities - roused for the final season - that would be an incredible story arc.

...the Miles/Hurley double-act was fun...
Big Grin I'm glad they gave Hurley someone else to bounce off after Charlie died, finally. Miles and Hurley's conversations about time-travel, in particular were really funny, and exactly the kind of questions I was asking at the time. Like an everyperson's guide...

thinlizzy - you know a whole lot about mythology - thanks Smile
And I hope the programme makers do a special idiots guide for people like me once the final finale has aired Big Grin

There was just one more point I wanted to make about the finale - that fight between Jack and Sawyer was very well choreographed and looked pretty spectacular. But the sound effects were terrible. I've heard better in kids' cartoons....

I saw an awesomely bad fight scene in a repeat of the X-Files between Mulder and X last week that easily topped the Sawyer-Jack scrap. As if the frequent cuts didn't make it obvious enough, the stunt guys looked nothing like them!
This fight scene from season 3 sticks in my mind - I like it better than the Jack/Sawyer one Wink up until the screaming... eek

(NB - fighting starts proper at 1.07ish, and is over by 1.40 but imo it's worth watching from the start for context).

Kate might be scrawny, but she sure owned her ass!

PS: Is it wrong that the screaming kinda turned me on?
She's certainly a good screamer Wink
Even if she's just pretending...Big Grin
