The funniest thing about the above comments is, knowing the sods behind Lost any of them could actually be possible, lol.
I was on the Lost website forums and came across this interesting theory, it was posted after episode 13 from a member called murrayf;
'Like your idea that Richard Alpert is visiting different points in time and he is from the future. Maybe Richard and his "hostiles" are all from a future where the world has ended or most humans have died and they are travelling to different points in time trying to find out what happened and using their time travelling machine. Maybe stealing the children to repopulate "future" earth. Maybe the island and the time machine is from the future and it travels back in time and the Dharma people are visiting it at it's 1970s point where it is stuck at the moment (it does look broken). Perhaps the Hostiles killed the Dharmas because they thought they had caused an accident and that's why they are so elusive too and live in tents. Now they need to bring the Dharmas back because it wasn't them who ended the world. Remember Ben was a Dharma so Richard has been elusive and perhaps he pretends to be Jacob to manipulate Ben to manipulate the "Losties". The Hostiles are trying to figure out what happened and when. Or trying to repair the time machine. At the moment when we watch the Losties trying hard not to tell the Dharmas anything about the future or change the past it's reminiscent of the way the Others seemed to be cagey in 2006-8 and knew the Losties names and everything about them and would not tell Locke the whole truth because he wasn't ready. They have to experience their own timeline first to understand what their purpose is. Perhaps the Hostiles are the children of the Losties. And the Dharmas are the Hostiles' grandparents and that's their mystical link to each other and Fate or something else is making sure these people all meet (eg Desmond meeting Dr Jack in the football stadium etc). Perhaps baby Aaron becomes a Hostile and changes his name to Jacob. Perhaps they change their names and grow beards because they are trying to get the future to change and it's like a complicated web trying to figure it all out for the people in the future. Anyway we shall find out. If Dharma discovered the time machine or if they built it in the 60s. Oh the Egyptian link. Perhaps the future people went back too far and the people who lived on the island thought they were Gods and built a Temple for them.
Corpse looked like Hurley (perhaps future Hurley) who was trying to stop the accident which blew the hatch and crashed the plane.'
I've got to say that Lost is really beginning to try my patience now. Each fucking episode now has to include some huge new revelation or plot twist. It seems like the writers are constantly trying to outweird themselves, and it's getting a little strained. My only consolation is that I said the same thing about season three, and season four quickly restored my faith. So roll on season six!

It is pretty good at the moment, I heard they're bringing Jacob into the show as flesh and blood, (rather than a ghostly shed haunter
), the guy who's going to be playing him is Mark Pellegrino (from Dexter), so we at least know it's somebody new, rather than a current character and he's supposed to be showing up at the end of this season. Now, if this is true it might give us a better understanding of the others, as they seem to fear the mysterious Jacob...I'm looking forward to more answers and even more questions...I bloody love it! lol.

to be honest i never really understood lost so stopped watching it
