Here's the shortlist just announced now for the top award:
Mark Cavendish
Tom Daley
Jessica Ennis
David Haye
Tony McCoy
Graeme McDowell
Graeme Swann
Phil Taylor
Lee Westwood
Amy Williams
Interesting line up. No footballers at all (rightly so after our shitty World Cup) and I think it might be the first time McCoy and Taylor make it. Good line up. McCoy, McDowell and Westwood I see as the early favourites.
mccoy deserves to win it at least once so i back mccoy for the win
Taylor should win but won't. Westwood or McDowell would be my guess for a winner.
I'd vote for Phil Taylor aswell. If he doesn't win it, then the award should be one of the golfers - McDowell or Westwood. We'll see, but I have a feeling a darts player will be overlooked..
edit: I'd just like to add that I think its right that there's no footballers. As was rightly said, the footballers should hang their heads in shame after that World Cup fiasco in the summer, so just desserts that there's no footballers included at last.
.... Have they forgot Panorama presenter Jeremy Vine, surely he should be in with a shot, it is the BBC Sports Personality after all...
Love to see Cavendish win it.
Would be great to see Taylor win it but that's not going to happen this side of the next ice age. I'll be happy so long as Haye doesn't get a look in, that fight against Harrison was about as convincing a performance as the footie team's during the WC (and I'm also glad to see no footballers short listed too)
Ennis or Cavendish for me.
Would love to see Tony McCoy, the best jump jockey of all time, win it.
I also hope Haye doesnt get a look in after that farce fight with Harrison
