This article from an open-access journal about European television history: https://viewjournal.eu/articles/10.18146...2.jethc013 tells me that the opening sentence in the earlier post, linked above, is mistaken..
UK wasn't one of the seven participants in the first event, but as I said in another post, membership of the European Broadcasting Union, not the EU, is crucial, nonetheless.
I've yet to read the whole article, but despite being from 2012, with many out of date YouTube links, it does still seem worth reading.
The website is glitchy right now, but wasn't when I first looked at it, a few days ago.

The hourglass is half-emptying..

"From one who is not permitted to find fault, [says the peasant representative] praise also is valueless; in absence of expression it is like a Chinese picture in which shade is lacking. [CW, Vol. 1, P. 1801 Marx cites this spokesman from the lower classes because his emphasis on opposites is pure dialectics: extremes can paint a picture, whereas compromise can only paint in grey." https://www.militantesthetix.co.uk/critl...ewrite.htm

I should add (24/12/2023) that I am still more extensively shadowbanned than I've ever been, despite paying for a blue tick for several months, see my pinned thread, profile and header pics

RE: Eurovision 2023
Again, following post 39, with my potted history of the music industry, via the Eurovision Song Contest, here's a nearly 7-hour Spotify playlist of Italo Disco: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQ...SSQdS5hnug which I've been listening to, on and off, for around a year.
Sadly, I'm not aware of there having been much of that genre in the contest.

I hadn't been listening to Spotify much, before last year, despite its being a standard app on the tablet I bought in late 2019, and although I saved a babeshow music playlist to my library, I've yet to listen to it at all.
The latter playlist was linked in the babeshow music thread, in 2020: https://www.babeshows.co.uk/showthread.p...pid2465843 where I posted from late 2020, to early 2021.

RE: Eurovision 2023
A few updates on Eurovision 2024. Firstly, the BBC will not work with TaP records to find the UK’s entry, but they will continue to collaborate closely with people “in the know” in the British music industry to find the UK’s entry, and the BBC are likely to continue with internal selection and not a national final. Secondly, the semi finals of the Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast on BBC 1 in the future and not BBC 3 or 4.

Belgium are the first country to announce the artist (but not the song) that will represent them in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo, Sweden in 2024.

RE: Eurovision 2023
Two pieces of Eurovision news. Firstly, the BBC have fully confirmed the UK’s participation in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo in Sweden in 2024, and that both semi finals and the grand final will be broadcast on BBC One.

Secondly, the BBC have revealed the UK’s entry for this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Nice in France on 26th November 2023 on BBC One and the CBBC Channel. The entry is a group called Stand Uniqu3 with the song entitled “Back To Life”.

Yeah, I thought the "Back to Life" song was pretty good.

Arthur Miller Wrote:I think the job of the artist... is to remind people of what they have chosen to forget.
