Page 3 is no more in the Sun Newspaper

Comment today by the Star newspaper.

Sky News spoke to a model who said she's lost money as she was booked to shoot with Sun & it's been cancelled. Maybe the people who got it banned should help pay her bills.

These idiots who led the protest probably can't believe their luck? Total madness that a British tradition has ended. I hope their next move is to cancel the Diet Coke adds and other advertisements that make men sex objects.

I think the circulation would have to drop A LOT for them to bring it back and I can't see it happening. The circulation income for newspapers is now trivial compared to the advertising income.

Obviously advertising revenue is related to circulation, but a lot of advertisers were running away from Page 3 even before the big anti-Page 3 campaign started. Talk about hypocrisy ... I don't believe for a second that Rupert Murdoch just woke up one day and suddenly decided that Page 3 was archaic. I just think they did a rough calculation...

(New or Retained Ad Revenue) > (Lost Ad Revenue) + (Lost Circulation Revenue)

...and bye bye boobs!

Considering its and its proprietor's poisonous influence on British public and political life for 50 odd years - a pair of tits on a page is the least of that rag's evils.

pretty much agree, I think the reason why the sun has ended p3 is a commercial one and not because of the anti p3 campaign as the p3 campaigners are saying.

Rupert Murdoch and everyone else in charge of the sun have clearly decided that they will get more money etc out of the sun (newspaper and online) by having no page 3 girls in the newspaper compared to if they still had a p3 girl in

they will have worked out what they will lose in terms of sales and money from people who will no longer buy the sun because of no page 3 girl in it, they will get back and more from people who will now buy the sun because of no more page 3 and they will get more money from the website compared to now as people who still like page 3 will subscribe to the sun website as the subscription to the sun website includes access to the sun page 3 website

also agree overall these days it isn't a huge loss because as you say the internet is essentially a giant copy of the sun. also because most glamour models make more money and get more regular work away from page 3 now. Webcam shows, working as a promo girl at car shows and events for example and most models these days will have their own website, their own calendar and quite a few sell outfits and underwear that they've worn on shoots etc. also the star and sport are both carrying on with their page 3

I don't think it has anything to do with political correctness. I think it is just old fashioned, and things have moved on. It is like dirty magazines, who nowdays would go into a newsagent to buy one? We now have the internet. Digital porn Ftw

Lets be honest does anyone really buy a newspaper just to see a pair of tits?.... maybe in the 70's, but not now.

Does this also mean page 4 is going as it is on the back of page 3? lol.

Can still get a fix of page 3 in the Daily Star (a better paper in my opinion anyway and a better quality of page 3 girl in recent years than the sun in my opinion too!)
