He did well with a minority adminstration from 2007-2011 when Labour mucked up the election by holding council elections on the same day with two different voting systems and while all the other parties talked Scotland down he was the only party talking Scotland up at 2011 election hence he has a majority this time

Still think the whole of the UK should have voted on it. polls do say more of the rest of us want scotland out than actual scots dont like 5 million people voting on what happens to 60 million + people cos thats essentially what it is changing the UK as a whole. look what happened in yugoslavia to be a lesson what happens if you get it wrong ( not like that could happen here but you never know )

hate to see whats going to happen if does vote yes theres a lot of things that will needed to be sorted out including the bail out money to HBOS and Royal bank of Scotland.

also what happens to all the scots people over here?

As much as I am in favour of the continuation of the union, I just want to play devil's advocate for a second.

With regard to Scots in England and the NHS, I imagine a similar setup to uk citizens being treated in Europe can be arranged. After all, we have to take care of those English coffin dodgers who retire here with their arthritis and gout And will you stop sending people up here to climb, or rather, fall off the Cairngorms!!

When it came to bailing out the banks, every taxpayer on either side of the border paid for that (and continue to do so). This was a decision taken by Westminster in the first instance and the bank owes the taxpayer, irrespective of their nationality. The reason England don't have a vote is perhaps the simplest question to answer. Quite simply, England isn't voting to break away from the UK.

As for 60 million + inhabitants of England not liking 5 million Scots deciding the fate of the UK, try being 5 million Scots constantly outvoted by England prior to devolution

Like I say though, I think the union must be protected and hope Scotland uses its head, not its heart

rbs is own the government/taxpayer. if scotland gets independance then the government in london will move rbs hq to london.

germany will end up dictating fiscal policy for the euro zone which will include budgets, taxes therefore germany via european central bank dictating what the euro zone does.

I'm afraid that's not the case. The bailout was more about covering the bank's massive debts, as opposed to having a controlling interest in banking operations. HM Government in 2008 said that the 82% stake was not 'standard public ownership', as the plan was always to return RBS Group to its private investors. This is also the present government's plan, providing RBS is able to provide a value for money service to its customers. There's a contradiction in terms!!!

In fact, the board of directors at RBS held the coalition government to effective ransom this year, forcing them to accept that target dependent six-figure bonuses would be offered to management or they would all resign. Cameron buckled and let them have the deal, although hard cash bonuses were not taken by directors as a compromise. If we had a true controlling interest, we would simply have denied them.

If HMG did fully nationalise RBS, the resulting deal would mean that the taxpayer would be fully liable for all of the bank's debt. Currently this is guaranteed by HMG and by a Special Liquidities Scheme provided by Bank of England. It also means that we would be paying off the group's private investors to the tune of £5bn. If Cameron did that, there's no way he would survive the next election as the public would demand his head on a platter. Of course, whether nationalising the bank would comply with EU regulations is another matter entirely.

So it would appear I may be right about EU membership for an independent Scotland. Despite Alec Salmond's assurance that legal advice had been taken from 2008 onwards, Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said they have only just begun to seek legal advice on EU membership status.

I watched Alec on The Sunday Politics and he said Scotland would be a member, simply by virtue of being a member by default as part of Great Britain. When asked for the legal precedents however, he would not divulge them. Sadly, given Nicola's comments, that makes him look very stupid or means he has lied since 2008.

Either way, his credibility has taken a knock!
