If Capello keeps their feet on the ground and concentrate one match a time I think we can. It would also help if any mention of fucking 1966, football coming home and all that old bollocks was banned

RE: Can England win the World Cup
England definetly stand a good chance of winning. In goal we have the the experience and class of David James plus sufficent back up in Robert Green, Paul Robinson and Ben Foster. John Terry and Rio Ferdinhand will be rock solid at the back while Mathew Upson will provide a good plan B for any injuries that may occur. At left back Ashley Cole will provide attacking qualities as well as great defending and the same goes for Glen Johnson at right back. In center midfield the likes of both Stevie Gerrard and Frank Lampard (who could both walk into almost any team) will strike fear into any opponents with their passing and shooting abilities. Gareth Barry will also be hard to keep out. The pace of both Aaron Lennon and Theo Walcott will be a big asset to England down the right and so will (if the manager chooses him) the crossing and deadball ability of a Mr David Beckham. Left wing options include Ashley Young who is a very talented young player and is still gaining experience and getting better. Another option down the left who could help Englands chances if he is fit is Joe Cole who can play in a variety of positions and if needed on the left wing. The goals and assists he will get England if he's on form would give us a major boost. Upfront we have many options. Wayne Rooney will inevitebly be in the team but he could be partnered with any number of players including Jermaine Defoe who is shit hot at the moment, Peter Crouch who's ariel ability will give defenders loads of problems and even Carlton Cole who's fledging international carear could be up and running by next year. Not to forget Micheal Owen who still has one of the best goals to games international scoring record in the world and at Manchester United could easily find form again.

So to sum up England have a very very good chance of sucess.
p.s Sorry if I missed and players out.

I agree with most of what you said but I do not think that Johnson is good defensively, I think that he is the weak link in our team, going forward he is shit hot, like Ashley Cole, but while Asheley Cole is also great at the badk, Johnson is just completely unreliable. And unless Owen wins the Golden Boot this season then I do not think he has a snowballs chance in hell of getting into the World Cup squad.

You're not for this world, this world is for you.

england winning the biggy hmm?

well in theory england have 1 opportunity like the other 31 teams do, and anything is possible in football, i'd honestly not be surprised if the african heat gets to much for the players and doesn't make them as dangerous as they were against croatia

i'm hoping for semis, can't expect too much for capello atm, but fingers crossed Smile

RE: Can England win the World Cup
The Vanity it is actually during the African winter so I highly doubt the heat will get to them too much, being that there won't really be any.

And fannysniffer man, Heskey? HESKEY!? Why? I cannot see one redeeming feature of that player and do not know why Capello or anybody else thinks anything of him. My Team would be:

David James
Robert Green
Ben Foster
Rio Ferdinand
John Terry
Ledley King (only if the England medical staff are happy with it, maybe Johnathan Woodgate if not, depending on fitness and how his season goes)
Matthew Upson
Joleon Lescott
Glenn Johnson (shitty at the back but no other feasible option really)
Ashley Cole
Gareth Barry
David Beckham (but only if he moves from shitty galaxy)
Steven Gerrard
Frank Lampard
Aaron Lennon
Shaun-Wright Phillips
James Milner
Joe Cole
Wayne Rooney
Peter Crouch
Carlton Cole
Jermaine Defoe
Darren Bent (If he continues the way he is playing, he could reach 18 odd goals this season)

Then the blank spots can be filled by whoever has had a good season, and only on who has had a good season, I do not care that people seem to love Owen, if there is a more potent striker in the Championship then they should go in because it should be form and not famousness, which happily Capello seems to do.

You're not for this world, this world is for you.

RE: Can England win the World Cup
If England play every game in the world cup like they did against Croatia they will win the world cup at a canter. But they wont play like that every game it is unrealistic. In golf terms it would be like expecting to shoot a 63 every time you play, it just does not happen.

I do believe they have a great chance only Spain have totally outclassed us recently that was in a friendly and a lot of key players missing. Lets be honest the best side does not always win and regardless of who you are you need luck at times to be on your side.

In terms of talent we are as good as any side out there

RE: Can England win the World Cup
Strange but true, fifa rank england as the fifth most successful country in world cup history - it's an odd way of calculating which puts equal importance on first round games as semi-finals or even the final.

would all those wishing to take part in today's round of multiple username bingo please note emails must be submitted before 5pm

With Capello as manager, yes I believe alongside the usual suspects England have a chance of winning the World Cup.

RE: Can England win the World Cup
England can win the WC, I don't think they will. You just get the feeling that if it goes to penalties England are going to lose. We have the worst record in the world when it comes to penalties, even worse then the Dutch or Italians. The WC Usually springs a surprise, the last two finals have been between teams who weren't that impressive in qualifying. Like Germany and Brazil in 02 and France at the last WC if I recall.

Argentina look terrible in qualifying, but have the players. I think they're a real threat now they've made it.
