It depends on whether the referee saw it. If he didn't see it then it's not lack of consistency and also if he didn't see it in then theory action could still be taken against Johnson by the FA. But yes you are right, it was worse than the Kompany challenge and an obvious red card. After all, if that isn't a red card then it's like saying that there are no red cards in football at all, because if that isn't a red card then I don't suppose anything is.

Yes it's possible. Johnson could still be in a bit of trouble perhaps, since the referee didn't even award a free kick. If the referee ends up saying he missed the incident altogether, then the FA always the option of stepping in.

As for Johnson's wild lunge, what was he doing or thinking? Anyone who goes into a challenge with both feet raised always runs the risk of a red card, as was seen with Kompany only a few days ago, so why did he do it?

he must've saw it, where else could he be looking? i think this is more how he interpreted the challenge. and because people interpret things differently, you get a lack of consistency.Smile

You're right terence, an FA spokesman said today there's nothing they can do in this case because it wasn't off-the-ball and the referee must have seen the incident. So there you have it, just like you said, inconsistency.

I think this is dangerous and should have been a red card, but here it is so everyone can decide for themselves.

yes it's dangerous, going in two footed but he did seem to make contact with the ball before he caught him. But I have to admit sometimes the inconsistency shown by referees on these type of challenges never fails to amaze me, but even in the video he doesn't appear to be in sight of the incident.
Anyway i'd like to see Mark Hughes start his career at QPR with a win.
tough ask but it's not an easy one.

I think it'd have been harsh to send Lescott off for kicking Johnson in the thigh - I'm sure it was unintentional...
