RE: Liverpool FC
The owners aren't keen on handing big contracts to players over 28.They were shocked at the deals some of the older players were on when they took over.

The word is that Meireles would be offered an improved deal if the 1st season went well.He was one of our better players last season for sure but he might not fit into what Kenny wants for next season?

He's similar to Aquilani for me.A bit light weight (doesn't like a tackle) but a decent footballer.

It looks like there's gonna be a lot of options in midfield this season though.

If it was up to me i'd keep him.

RE: Liverpool FC
Raul Meireles or Alberto Aquliani.... I'll take Meireles everytime, I know Aquilani didn't get much of a chance through inlury in his one season but he's too soft for the Premier League & Meireles gets more goals, plus Jordan Henderson is a similar player to Aquilani & is younger, English & has half a season's good performance's to build on.

Even if we do get Stewart Downing who's gonna play on the right as Dirk Kuyt isn't a midfielder & not the player to use with Andy Carroll up top & Maxi is better in a 4-3-3 formation. I don't understand when people come out with if they don't get Downing they're gonna go for Aaron Lennon, errr one's a left winger & the other a right???

I'm one who always sees both sides & have never got carried away with the Kenny thing & eventhough the transfer window isn't even open yet it looks to me that we're gonna have a shit load of central players & possibly one over priced winger leaving us with a very unbalanced squad next season & I can see (If we don't get Downing) then we'll play Charlie Adam on the left (If we get him) which will be a fucking joke as he's too slow & the whole point of him is for his central passing.

I'll wait till August 12th before I start getting excited & thats only if we can put a good & balanced mix of players together???

Oh & the shorts groundnpound I was looking for at about £10 or less, there's many a place you can buy em at £18Rolleyes Silly price that!!!

I pray we get Juan Mata instead of Downing.

The transfer rumours keep me goin durin the summer but some of the names linked are a joke.Don't know where these journo's pull some of them from?Their main angle is french this summer because of the Comolli link but it's wearin me thin lads!Do they really think that Kenny's gonna be shopping in the unproven french market this summer? They must be thick in the head. It's the laziest journalism i've ever seen!!!Get a grip.

News Flash: Houllier left years ago!!!

I saw the Sammy Lee thing coming tbh.His body language on the touchline was different after a few months alongside Steve Clarke.Think he had to take a bit of a backseat when it came to his coaching role.

RE: Liverpool FC
Of the players on gnp's list above, i only really know 2 of them:- Aly Cissokho is one, and i think he's a very very good LB, strong on the ball, good going forward and likes a tackle. Nolan Roux:-very promising young striker with a good goals per game ratio in a pretty dreadful side (1 in every 2.2 games), he plays and actually looks uncannily like a certain Mr. Torres Wink (see pics below and judge for yerselves!!).

I wouldnt be disappointed if we signed one or both of those guys. The others i know nothing about.

Nolan Roux / Fernando Torres

**Im not so naive to think because he looks like him he'd emulate Torres!!!

Judge me by my size do you? Hmmm? Hmmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the force. And a powerful ally it is.

RE: Liverpool FC
I've seen Juan Mata play for a few years & seen him gradually come along but I think we need an old school type winger to feed Carroll & there isn't any right footers that I can think of but the two left footers that stand out are Downing & N'Zogbia, they're two players who'll hug the touch line & not cut in at the 18 yard box.
Juan Mata is more like David Silva, more suited to a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 but if we could get him he'd be a good signing but I think he'd be the perfect player for ArsenalShy

In other news I was reading on the internet today that 3 year old Australian Tomas Božić has won the World Boomerang Championships. He's now being linked with a £20m move to Liverpool as according to some reports "He'd be able to provide the perfect in swingers for Andy Carroll"

Some of the idiots from the French league we've been linked with so far.
I think to call Ligue 1 unproven, and to call these players idiots, is a bit of a reach. France is as proven a market as any other. We've just paid over €50M for two young Enligsh lads who have 3 caps between them. I think Ligue 1 is a physical enough league to prepare for the Prem and their's some good value to be had, some serious young talent coming through. Yoda's gone over Cissokho (who I always thought was a bit over-rated) and Roux, I'll have a word on the others I know

Moussa Sissoko is a DM for Toulouse. Massive potential. Only 21, already been capped for France. Plays just in front of the back for breaking up oppostion attacks but has the dribbling and technique to go up the other end and create. Proper box to box midfielder, well capable of getting a few goals as well. Lot of teams looking at him, prob cost £10-15M. Would love if we signed him but with the way our midfield is don't know where he'd go.

M'Vila is young DM at Stade Rennais. Like Sissoko, French international, U-19 captain. Mascherano-esque, small, fast, covers a lot of ground, makes plenty of tackles although he's prob a better passer. I'd reckon he'd be a bit cheaper than Sissoko.

Lovren is a Croatian CB. Lyon paid €10M for him 18 months ago. To spend that on a 20yr old CB shows they must see something in him. Fast, good in the air and a strong tackler I reckon he'd be a great addition at CB, where I think we need to strengthen.

A quick note Chu-Young, haven't seen alot of him but could be cheap seeing as Monaco were relegated. And if we were looking at anyone from Sochaux, Boudebouz's club, I'd much prefer Marvin Martin. Plays behind the strikers, definately one to watch.

Anyway, I think my point was, before getting side-tracked by my European scouting fantasy, that France is a top-class market in terms of ability and value. Fine, you might have your Cheyrou's and Diao's but England has it's Jeffers' and Bentley's. I'd much rather buy Sissoko, M'Vila or Matuidi over Adam. Can't comprehend why we're in for him.

RE: Liverpool FC
Fair play mate, maybe idiots was a bit strong.

The french league though is a weak league for me.We've been down that road under Houllier and failed badly. We were told guys like Vignal,Diouf,Diao,Cisse,Diomede,Le Tallec and Cheyrou were all world beaters with bags and bags of potential and all were mediocre below average players not fit to walk past Anfield never mind pull on a Red jersey.

A man who knows Liverpool as well as Kenny won't go down that route again unless he thinks there's a gem in there. He knows like the fans know, the amount of duds we've brought from that league in the past and he won't risk doing the same again.

You can't compare Carroll and Henderson to signing a young french lad.For starters they've both got experience of playing in England, they don't need to learn a new language and a adjust to a new culture. They know what it means to play for a club like Liverpool. The amount of caps they have doesn't matter and don't get it twisted Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson are no Jeffers and Bentley.

Don't get me wrong mate i know there's a lot of talented young French lads and if Comolli can bring Dalglish another Pires,Vieira or Henry from France then we'd all be made up but i like the new way we're trying to recruit now.Homegrown.Why not embrace it and see where it takes us.

You might turn out to be spot on about Sissoko, M'Vila and Matuidi being better than Adam but for me Charlie's got more talent in his left peg than those 3 have put together Wink

RE: Liverpool FC
Houllier's dealings definately made me wary of the French market alright but I think it's gotten a lot stronger since. I think I'm probably just sick of how over-inflated the English market is and would rather look anywhere else. Thankfully the big prices don't seem to put off Henry and co.

Re. Adam, I'm just not convinced by him yet. Ya he had a great season with Blackpool, but that's still Blackpool. Everything went through him for Blackpool so he had a far better chance of standing out when you watch them. There's no doubt his corners a very good but I think he has a tendency to play the 'Hollywood pass' too often, I've doubts about his fitness and his tracking back is non-existent. Plus paying £10M+ for a player Rangers deemed not good enough and shipped for £500,000 only 2 years ago just doesn't sit well with me. With Aquilani coming back I just don't think we need Adam. Aquilani had the most assists in the Prem in the 2nd half of last season, even though he still played fuck all so I think he has shown he can cope with the Prem. If Kenny can give him a bit more mental toughness we're laughin.

Passing stats can be a bit misleading but I thought this article was interesting enough. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footbal...r-fee.html (Stats must be from open play because Adam has far more goals and assists)
