Adult broadcaster fined £90k by Ofcom

You know I just like a laugh as much as the next man does some people have me all wrong on this forum, they think I'm all serious all of the time but whatever the politics are, I like exactly the same as any other bloke out there that has the same blood and passion running through their vains, I like my beer, my football, my women and my porn and it does get me fucking worked up when Ofcom try to take away one of my and other's guilty pleasures as none of these channels should be subject to regulation in the first place. This is democracy for you a 90k fine for not supplying recording for ofcom who are just going to fuck you over anyway as they have no understanding or reasoning in the world of the babe channels or human rights. I expect as a free citizen in a civilized democracy to watch whatever I choose as I class TV and Media in very much the same way as I'd class any other way in which I choose to spend during my recreational time afterall I work full time, long and hard hours and it makes my blood boil that the money used to fine a harmless late night channel is not going into the economy but into useless power hungry tripping cretins such as ofcom to pocket from the usual easy targets. If ofcom want to target anybody then target these bloody foreign religious channels as afterall it's them lot with their bloody extremist views that choose to carry out the worst atrocities mankind has ever see, ie flying 2 planes into the World Trade Centre and it wasn't porn that made them do it, no it was fucking religion, that's the people ofcom need to keep an eye on not lovers of the babe channel's who are no more interested than seeing a bit of eye candy to brighten up their night after a long hard day at work.

Well said Scottishbloke. These distorted, hypocritical values exercised by Ofcom are a disgrace!!! The inflammatory religious psychological "pornography" promulgated by many of the religious channels is where their concern should really be directed. Also the insidious inserting of adult material into so called documentaries or "edgy" drama.

The channels are not going to get involved in an extremely costly legal battle over this. Neither should we really expect them to. Let's face it, taking on Ofcom is not going to involve chucking a few grand at a ten bob lawyer. Many of the channels would be unlikely to survive through a legal battle even if they did end up winning it.

Thus, they'll settle for watered down versions and hope to keep a steady flow of calls from that. In many ways, the call shows will act as advertisements for the other services they provide. If they get a reasonable amount in from calls whilst tempting viewers to pay £3 a time to see girl X go further on videos sent direct to your mobile, they'll be happy with that.

The major problem is that Ofcom has discretionary powers. That pretty much allows them to set their own agenda whilst making it very difficult to challenge them legally.

When it comes down to it, the only thing that's going to change this is if some powerful voices start being heard speaking out against Ofcom and don't hold your breath about that happening any time soon.

SEL just gave Ofcom the ammo needed to slap them with an easy fine. They didn't really help themselves by just playing ball by supplying the recordings.

Ofcom are slowly strangling the babe channels If things keep going the way they have in the last few years i dont think there will be any channels in the future Sad when a bunch of office johnny's who know sod all have the power to control what us so called free person's can watch and enjoy. The end may be nigh, unfortunately it's not the end of Ofcom

As far as I understand the original post, that's simply not true, mr mystery. The very first (quoted) line reads:

"On" it's channels... that clearly points to material, not a simple failure to supply recordings.

Yes, many of the breeches concerned failure to supply recordings, but there's enough in that report to tell us that many of those 'serious breeches' concerned the material they were airing... you know, such as a pubic hair on display for more than 10 seconds.... something serious such as that.

I've done the only thing I can do, which is fill out the surveys about what I find acceptable, to be turned in to Ofcom of whoever it goes to. There's not much I can do other than just post here. The same can be said for the others as well.

I have corresponded with them by e-mail & spoken to them over the phone on a couple of occassions. They really are an intransigent bunch. They do not want to know. They could not, however, keep up this load of bollox without the support of the (any) government of the day.

Exactly. I too have filled in the survey, but despite the results clearly suggesting people would be okay with harder material, Ofcom have done fuck all about it - chose to ignore it completely. You could send Ofcom and/or the government a petition with 12 million names on it and it wouldn't make a scrap of differencee because no one in authority cares how Ofcom are treating the babeshows. Why should they? A piddling little group of adult channels with a viewership of about 1500? *

I am probably 1 of a few that has done something about this and not only have I written a letter to 10 Downing Street but I am in the process of drafting a letter to the head of Ofcom because enough is a fucking enough. What and why are/have there been people like myself, who have been in conflicts and either have died or been injured for this country for some jumped up quango to take civil liberties by fining channels that get 1 or 2 complaints but yet don't bat a fucking eyelid at events that have generated 70+ complaints.
I know one letter to the head of Ofcom will do fuck all but if we all start sending letters to the head of Ofcom and 10 Downing Street including employees of the industry, then maybe we might just start to get somewhere.
