Brilliant film. What I never understood was why didn't Colour Sergeant Bourne, win the VC... he did get the DCM .

I believe Frank Bourne received the DCM for coolness and courage during the battle. It may be that he didn't receive the VC because the outstanding bravery of others, who weren't as much in the front line as colour sergeant, was shown and therefore their bravery was perhaps not as much expected. For example the likes of Major James Henry Reynolds (surgeon) and James Dalton (army commisariat department) did get the VC, for perhaps showing more bravery than what was expected of their roles.

However, I do believe Colour Sergeant Bourne should have received a VC too, although the other sergeant (Windridge) didn't receive a VC either..

It's believed that Bourne received a comission instead of a VC.
He also relisted in a non fighting role in WW1.
With Nigel Green playing the part of Bourne, you would think that he was in his 50's. In reality he was only 24 at the time of Rookes Drift.

Got the blu ray of that. Must buy, The pic and audio are amazing for a 40 odd year old film.

It is a special film for me, one of my all time favourites. I have the dvd. Haven't yet moved up to Blu Ray but I hope to one day.

I thought it was pretty good, but having already seen the original upon which its based, the truly excellent Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs, it had a lot to live up to.

I stuck the spoiler thing in your post. It can be used to hide fundamental plot lines in TV shows & Films - so that people who read the TV/Film threads can make the choice whether they want to view potential crucial moments, rather than finding that the threads reveals such moments and 'spoil' a show/film they've not yet seen - in the same way that you tried to forget what happened so you could enjoy the film more. Smile

The spoiler code is easy:
put your spoiler text here
