I’ll add this to my running log of reasons that Canada deserves some sort of medal for its capacity to cheat in comically inventive ways:

1988, Seoul: Ben Johnson takes a prodigious amount of steroids “before it was cool” and runs the 100m in 9.79 seconds.

1998, Nagano: Canadian snowboarder is stripped of his gold medal after testing positive for marijuana. Days later it is given back to him when some bleary-eyed officials from the IOC concede that there’s no way marijuana could be considered “performance enhancing”.

2024, Paris: Team Canada women’s soccer team is docked 6 points and fined for using drones to spy on their opponents’ training grounds.

2026, Milano Cortina: Double-touching accusations levelled by Sweden against Team Canada’s male curlers. Swedes and Canadians clash over curling — possibly the most polite conflict since Winnie the Pooh and Yogi Bear fought over a jar of Piglet’s honey.

"After the viral exchange, World Curling spoke to Canadian officials and issued a verbal warning for the language used by Kennedy. Canada was warned that any further inappropriate behavior would result in additional sanctions."

Checks are now to be made to make sure that the stones are released correctly.

Barring a few mistakes in one end a professional performance from Bruce Mouat's rink as they beat Czechia 7-4 in the men's curling round robin.

Well not exactly World War inducing I would say - just think what would happen if that was against the USA and Trump was watching??

Kirsty Muir has qualified for the Women's Big Air Freestyle Final on Monday in 4th place. Let's hope she can go up at least one spot in the final itself and not be cursed by the 4th place finish when it really matters on Monday.

Another double-touch controversy, this time involving Canada’s women curlers. They had one rock removed in the first end against Switzerland when the umpire called it.

From the replays it really does look like her index finger brushes the top of the rock after she’s released the handle. But for the life of me, I cannot think what advantage that gives her. There can’t possibly be enough force in the brush of an index finger to alter the course or strength of the shot.
