Winter Olympics 2026 - Milano Cortina

The Winter Olympiad 2026 opening ceremony takes place on Friday.
Before then from Wednesday some Curling qualification matches take place.
Anyway here is the medal thread.
Team GB do actually have a number of theoretical medal prospects this time around so keep your eyes peeled.

Awesome. TBH I like the Winter Olympics so much more than the summer games.

People hurling themselves down mountainsides headfirst. Snowboarders getting high before the event of their lives. Grown men in pubs debating whether the Chinese figure skater over-rotated on her triple salchow — but ultimately agreeing that the German should win because “she’s so hot”. And, of course, that speed skating race where they all wipe out at the end and the gold medal goes to whoever’s broken elbow slid across the finish line first.

…I LOVE the winter games!

The Ice Hockey Preliminaries have thrown up a couple of real potential needle matches due to current Word events...

Canada v USA in the Women's and USA v Denmark in the Men's.

One of the best hopes for a medal, the British skeleton team have been told their helmets do not meet safety standards.

The British team have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for sport.

Oh the shenanigans have started already have they? Reminds me of the French whining about "special wheels" at London 2012 after Dave Brailsford joked that British Cycling had wheels that were "more round" than everyone else's

I wonder how many of us had failed doping test before the Games begin on our bingo cards??

Women's Ice Hockey starts tomorrow from 11am
Men's Ice Hockey starts on 11th Feb with the NHL having an Olympic break so NHL players can take part

The team would currently not be able to wear the helmets in competition, but the Court for Arbitration will be heard on Thursday, with the result expected on Friday, before competition begins on 12 February.


The GB Team say " The new helmet has been designed to comply with new rules imposed by the IBSF for the 2026-27 season, which are aimed at improving safety, and that it is proven to be safer than any other helmets being used.

The rules set out the safety standards helmets must meet and have stipulations about the shape. For example, the helmet must not have any additionally attached aerodynamic elements."
