He is apparently seen as a moderate and a centrist. Sounds to me like he will somewhat or maybe largely align with the vision of his predecessor Pope Francis. If so and it's a big IF then maybe not a bad choice.

That's what I have been wondering.....But he has slammed JD Vance and Trump so I'm beginning to think Vance isn't likely to get a warm welcome in the Vatican anytime soon. I do think he does deserve a thread on here however, could be quite an interesting Pope. Not only that I believe he is one of the youngest Popes we've had..

Mind you, had they sent orange smoke after the white smoke, we probably would have known then that Trump had SOMETHING to do with it but knowing Trump as we do - he'll want to be the first world leader to meet the new Pope and probably was the first to congratulate him on his election.

Why would he need a thread, unless he is in the news all of the time it'd be pointless, this thread can be used to discuss it for now.

Yeah, at first glance it's oh, an American, but, he was really close to Francis and has the same sort of outlook, so hopefully he'll be a decent Pope and unite rather than divide. He apparently named himself after a progressive pope, so hopefully he'll be somebody that continues to call out hate and those that spread it.

Hey, MAGA are apparently angry he was chosen, so to me, that means he's the right man for the job.
