It was given them by France on the centennial of American independence.

But now he says that the US no longer represents the values that led France to offer the statue and he want it back.

Also yesterday Trump said that he was going to invoke the Alien Enemies Act.
An act that was created for use during war time, last used during World War II to force thousands of people of mostly German, Italian, and Japanese descent in internment camps.
Thankfully a federal judge temporarily blocking the administration from using the 1798 law for deportations.

^ Rubio ignored the ruling and they deported hundreds to El Salvador. It's being reported that at least one was deported on the basis that they thought his tattoos were gang tattoos. He had a court hearing coming up where he was aiming to show that they were not gang related but Trump does not believe that they need to abide by due process and the law
