We will be told what to think next lol. The governments will have to start looking at platforms such as Tik Tok if they are going to be serious about protecting under age users from potentially harmful content.

I think if truth be told BS are being very cunning and testing the waters before the new bills etc get through gov. At a very basic level they’ll all require any site offering over 18 rated to age verify the user, and if they can’t then the isps will have to block them. It’s why it’s not gone through yet as it’s not only got massive privacy issues round it but the censorship questions as well as the massive cost ‘& technical challenges for the internet providers. All it will do is massively increase business for the vpn companies and you just bounce ur traffic via another country. Some countries already block certain sites for instance CB has to be accessed via a vpn in a lot of Eastern European countries. In the long term it’ll come down to age verification and who / how / what does it and the privacy stuff as mentioned earlier. It’ll get even more interesting with companies like apple introducing the web privacy tech that effective mask ur IP address with tech like iCloud private relay.

This Bill might fall down on data protection issues, how many people are going to feel comfortable giving sensitive information for watching adult content. We will see what happens, but it seems like a step backwards for these channels online content.

I might be wrong, but I think all the channels already have access to our personal details, due to us using our credit cards, mobile phones and IP addresses.

S66's website already had an age verification process for a few years, I think.

The only protection we as consumers might have, is who they share that information with. (obvious exception are the police)

Agree with the comments, I think part of the idea was a unified system to do the age verification hence the privacy / tracking concerns. Purely from a technology standpoint to implement anything of that scale and include in it blocking none compliant content hosted outside the uk (which was in the first drafts) is massive, you almost need infrastructure of the size / scale of the great firewall if china and the communications industry hit back and said who’s going to pay for it all (one of the reasons it all stalled getting anywhere)
