I was 10 then or I would be in 13 days time. I remember that twit who used to fly around the studio Ben Bennison chasing the Whiffenpuff, Wilf Lunn, the mad inventor and the signer Pat Keysell. Aardman started on that show as well

May 1966 eh?

Yes the mad inventor..,used to have those weird machines on the show...it’s Pat Keysell however who first comes to mind whenever I am reminded of the show for some reason despite the fact that it’s Tony Hart who is the best known of the presenters.

Yes my birthday was once Empire Day-as touched on in a recent episode of Back In Time For School. I think you would remember her because she basicallly fronted the programme whereas the others were more in the background. It was the first time we'd ever seen signing in a childrens' programme.

Did you ever send anything into the gallery-loved that music btw.

I honestly can’t remember if I did. My uncle did..,now he has a real God given talent for drawing...absolutely brilliant, from a very young age, but he doesn’t share that opinion. The number of excellent drawings he has destroyed over the years because he didn’t believe they were up to standard is shockingly high. Taking perfectionism to extremes. Very sad really.

Do you remember these guns called Sekiden/Sekeiden? Anyway this was a spring-loaded pistol which you loaded small, soft brass-coloured pellets and then have shootouts with your friends OR set up a target and try to hit that, like tin cans or bottles. Mind you if you got hit by one it didn't leave a mark but it did sting a bit. I cannot imagine these would go down well nowadays but of course now they have NERF guns-but you can take someone's eye out with even a foam missile if it travels fast enough.

Carl posted UFO pic-now this was a very good series and sometimes dealt with psychological stuff and played tricks on your mind. As it was the 60's(and I only saw this in the late 70's) it had some mind-bending effects and also dealt with drugs. As kids we loved the machines, the SHADO Mobiles, Interceptors(with a single missile) and the futuristic cars. Opening episode is memorable as it followed a young girl's bottom very close up which you;d never get away with today. That girl was Ayesha Brough who would later go on to front her own series for kids on ITV, Lift Off with Ayesha. Ed Bishop(who played Ed Straker) dyed his hair blonde and masqueraded as the head of the a tv studio-the front for SHADO Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation (told you I was a fan) Big Grin

Re 'Vision On' their phrase for the picture gallery "we're sorry, we can't return any of your pictures(in the Gallery) but we do give a prize for all those we show" which basically meant "we've binned the ones that weren't any good to save a huge postal bill, and decided to award prizes to those of you more talented." RE: Memories of Childhood
Any former cub scouts on here? Remember doing Bob-A-Job week? You would go out and do jobs to help people out and in return they would pay you and the money went to charity. I recall doing a garden, polishing some silver candlesticks and I also did some sort of job at the house of this girl I really fancied-luckily we went to the same school and I knew her Mum so she gave me some little jobs to do and I got to see her daughter. Wink She saw me in my full cub uniform(which I still have but is now more like a hat than a jumper it is so small) We were always told to stick to our own areas where we knew people but some strangers were okay. Don't think they still do it but of course now they have girls as members!!

Doing the Bob-a-Job week is the clearest memory I have of being in the Cub Scouts, that and burning my forefinger and thumb on a tin which I’d lobbed onto the campfire...almost instant huge blisters which stung like you wouldn’t believe.

It’s the memory of being in Scouts that fills me with the most horror, having to wear a ridiculous army like beret on your head, which as I mentioned in a previous post got me into trouble on more than one occasion with the troop leader. Remember now this was during the time when ‘Some Mother’s Do Ave Em’ was hugely popular on the TV, and yours truly then being the type to want to cause mischief, just couldn’t resist doing Frank Spencer impressions which would cause my comrades to have snigger attacks while the troop leader was talking to us..causing him to go apeshit on me...

Ah memories...laugh
