Memories of Childhood

Another thing I've just remembered at primary school. Every time it was a kid's birthday they would bring out the fake cake and put candles on it and then sing a song "we wish you many hap-py returns of the day..." and then of course you blew out the candles to thunderous applause from your schoolmates. For assemblies we used to troop into the hall to the strains of Ein Kleine Nachtmusik(A Little Night Music) various movements. I think that is where I learnt to appreciate that kind of music which I still love today.

Oh yes any members of this club on here-do you remember it, do you have any books still? A scan to get started(done two years ago)

I do remember we had one of those arcade ping pong games my brother used t wind me up by setting it to fast and kept beating me!1: bounce: dirty rotter and t remember when we had the old VHS tape recorder (think everyone was VHS in our street) when I look back now I think you probably had more chance of flying a space shuttle than setting up a VHS recorder and I wonder how many kids can set one up in the same time it would take them do it on the boxes we have now.


Which type of Airfix kits were your favourites? i loved the historical figure ones (and believe it or not, i have two to still do that I acquired on e bay a year or so ago) reignite my interest again then once glued then i will look for the paints which I think aren't easy to find in the shops as there are so few hobby shops around now.

I used to mostly do aircraft from a spitfire to a helicopter and a Tornado with swing wings. I also remember my first one was a boat, military-type which I used to sail in the bath. The largest one I built(with help from Dad) was a Flying Fortress complete with opening bomb bay doors. Still got some paints but they may well have dried up over the years. I also used to built LEGO models, and not just the bought type. My friend and I discovered that you could make a small swingbridge with a flat piece, a helicopter rotor and an elastic band stretched around it and attached to a small brick which would turn it.

I recall a short ferry trip to the Isle Of Skye. Leaning over the side I spotted huge bunches of jelly fish .So excited I ran back into the canteen area and held my hands apart and shouted. " Mum ,Dad I've just seen some jelly fish with testicles this big ".
Only being ten at the time I realised what I'd said as everyone sat there pissing themselves!!!!

That could have been useful if you had been stung by it too

I did dip in and out of TISWAS occasionally Carl, and I thought Lenny Henry was very good in his characters Trevor McDoughnut(parody of Trevor McDonald and I was also there when they brought him on to surprise Henry) and Algernon Winston Razzamatazz something with his decondensed milk sandwiches and his cry "ooooooooooooookay!" and who could resist sexy Sally James
