RE: Snooker
Take a bow John Higgins.
146 break.
New highest break.
146s are relatively rare in general tournament play although Ronnie O'Sullivan made one in last years championship.

RE: Snooker
I think Milko was getting a lot of unfair stick, even above the odd miss he made. I suspect the White/Hendry "you can't take your eyes off him because you've no idea what he'll do next" line isn't entirely well meant.

He puts me in mind of Tony Drago, who also had amazing cue power, and was also more prone to beating himself up, than needing his opponent to do it for him. But you knew underneath he was one of the nice guys.

Day Nine: HIGGINS POWERS INTO QUARTER FINALS

John Higgins wasted little time in totally demolishing Jack Lisowski 13-1 to reach the quarter finals. An overnight lead of 8-0 swiftly became 10-0 aided by a 55 break.
Lisowski finally got his first and only frame on the board in frame eleven thanks to a break of 81 before the Wizard of Wishaw crashed in two centuries of 100 and then an utterly magnificent tournament high break of 146.
The last frame proved a mere formality as a chastened Lisowski trudged off from the scene of carnage.

Ding Junhui is one frame away from the last eight after a dominant day against Anthony McGill at the Crucible.
In the morning session Ding produced a scintillating masterclass of mesmerising snooker. The China number one plundered break after break of at times mind boggling quality.
He rattled in runs of 102, 81, 126, 64, 75, 99 and 73 to leave his opponent in a complete daze. He took the last as well with a completely ridiculous three ball long range plant from the baulk cushion.
McGill showed heart and character in the evening though despite losing the first frame to go 0-9 down. The Scot hit beeaks of 52, 74 and 97 to win 3 frames in a row.
Ding responded with a 66 to go 7 clear.
The next two frames were shared as McGill ensured there will be a final session but Ding finished with a magnificent 113 to claim a 12-4 lead overnight.

A much improved Judd Trump is engaged in a fascinating tussle with Ricky Walden after two sessions of their last sixteen tie.
Trump started superbly with a century before Walden won 3 frames on the trot helped by runs of 61 and 90. Back came the Bristolian to level at 3-3 before Walden took the lead again with a break of 71. Trump then hit 2 breaks of 52 in the last frame of the morning to leave the match locked at 4-4.
Into the evening then and after a slow start to the evening Walden took the first two frames to go 6-4 in front before Trump slammed in a couple of excellent tons to level once more. Despite hitting a 55 break in frame 13 Trump conspired to lose it as Walden played an unbelievable pot on the final blue and won the frame on the black.
Trump quickly replied with a 63 for 7-7.
Trump in again in frame 15, poor miss on a red, Walden punishes the error and it's 8-7 Walden. But Trump coolly wins the last of the day and the match turns into a best of nine frame shoot out on Monday afternoon.

Mark Williams extended a 5-3 lead after session one to a 10-6 advantage over Robert Milkins. The Welshman took the opener if the afternoon before the man from Gloucester carved out breaks of 68 and 51 to close to just 5-6 down.
Williams responded with a three frame salvo including runs of 69 and 58 to go 9-5 in front. Although Milkins knocked in a break of 73 in frame 15 Williams won the last frame of the day to seal a four frame lead overnight.

RE: Snooker
Day Ten: DING, TRUMP AND WILLIAMS CLINCH REMAINING LAST EIGHT SPOTS

Ding Junhui took the one frame he required for victory in quick time against Anthony McGill. He will face Barry Hawkins next after a 13-4 success.

Judd Trump has beaten Ricky Walden 13-9 to set up a clash with John Higgins. Although Walden won the first frame of the afternoon to go 9-8 in front he was not to win another frame as Trump hit breaks of 66, 70, 66 and a closing 103 to seal the win.

Mark Williams claimed the last spot in the quarter finals after overcoming Robert Milkins 13-7.
An excellent century in the opening frame of the evening got the Welshman on his way. Milkins with a series of smaller breaks clawed back to 7-11 down only for Williams to rattle in a fine 83 to take him to the brink of victory which he sealed with a run of 72 in booking a quarter final meeting with Ali Carter.

World Championship Quarter Final Draw: (seeds in brackets)

Kyren Wilson (9) v Mark Allen (16)

Judd Trump (4) v John Higgins (5)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ding Junhui (3) v Barry Hawkins (6)

Mark Williams (7) v Ali Carter

We could easy do a separate thread on the best and (more likely) the worst commentators.

I particularly loathe Virgo's "he's 200 points behind and needs 18 snookers, BUT FOR ME HE'S JUST GONE FAVOURITE" routine annoyedannoyedannoyed
