Nishikori 2 breaks up against Federer in the opening set.

All hopes now rest with Johanna Konta but she faces Makarova which is tough and then could play Serena Williams in the last eight match.
Konta's route is really tough.
Big serving Pliskova looms in a semi if she gets that far and then maybe Kerber in the final. Tall order.

Shame for Dan but he can be pleased with his performances in Melbourne

Federer battled past Nishikori in 5 sets.

Top ladies seed and defending champion Angelique Kerber has also been dumped out ensuring neither top seed in mens or womens event has got past the fourth round.

I would be careful about that .
Murray still has a tough draw potentially ahead of him.
A possible final 3 matches against Nishikori, Wawrinka and Raonic await should Murray reach the quarters. Not guaranteed victories in any of them.
I am hopeful but wary .

Still just to try and jinx everybody in the ladies draw apart from Jo Konta and in a hopelessly biased attempt to play the reverse psychology card......

Jo Konta has absolutely no chance whatsoever of winning any more matches against any opponent at this years Australian Open . If this fails however I am going to blame the commentators .
