Real Steel - 8/10 - Fun family feel good movie, def one you could watch with the mrs or the kids and not want to rip your eyes out by the end of it.

Also watched Zombie Hunter last night - 0/10 - Naff zombie based flick that's not even worth watching with your mates and beer. Not so much as "so terrible its funny" (like Sharknado etc), just plain terrible

Flight - 8/10. Excellent performance from Denzel as usual, if he's in a film it's worth checking out.

"The Bishop's Wife"

An oldie from the 1940s doing the rounds at local arthouse cinema.

Cary Grant, David Niven, Loretta Young.

Can't recommend it highly enough at this time of year - right up there with "It's A Wonderful Life" for a "feel-good" festive heart warmer with a bit of light comedy. OK yes it's corny and sentimental and dated viewed from the "lofty heights" of our early 21st century but for me that's all part of its charm. Even if you don't agree with the religious subtext (which is pretty mild) it's still affecting.

David Niven is a harassed Bishop sucking up to rich folks to raise the money for a new cathedral, and has lost touch of why he's doing it and neglected his wife and kid. Cary Grant is the twinkly charming angel who's sent to help the Bishop see the error of his ways and appreciate what he's really got and what should matter - but as the plan to achieve this seems to involve the angel flirting with the Bishop's wife, this sets off some amusing and unintended situations.

Had never really heard of it - but having seen it now I don't understand why it doesn't have the same kind of reputation/kudos as the aforementioned Frank Capra Christmas staple : if you like "It's a Wonderful Life" I think you'll also enjoy this.

Kind of film you simply couldn't make these days - the cynicism of the times just wouldn't allow it.

Blade 9/10. Not watched this for a couple of years. Still a great watch, original storyline and set the trend for all the modern Vampire movies of the last 10 years. Just a shame about the sequels Smile

Real Steel is a good film, the fight-bot reminds me of rocky. a futuristic robot rocky film.

the dark knight triliogy 10/10 - each film gets better also humanises the batman character with the focus on the turmoil of bruce wayne goes through being batman with the injuries and living with the choices he has to make. I like the way they make the batman a symbol which someone else can continue after bruce wayne gives up the cape, which is indicted at the end when robin jonathan blake goes to the cave and stands on the platform has it rises.

muppets christmas carol - an annual must watch, the ending to the film suits the film. Probably the best muppet movie followed by muppets treasure island.

rocyk balboa - a nice ending to the rocky series after the awful rocky v.

Starship Troopers. 8/10 still a highly watchable film by Paul Verhoeven. Noticeable in style to his other films such as Robocop and Total Recall.
