From the position Halsey was in it looked like a definite penalty, so his decision is understandable.
Said this before ref gets one chance often when play is hectic 100mph stuff to come up with right decision .Tv on the other hand has numerous slow motion replays and numerous camera angles .The pundits would never spot anything without the technology at their disposal .
Another example was the commentator (Guy Mowbary)Stoke -Chelsea game .He didn't spot the 2 own goals correctly until he had the benefit of replays .I think Guy is the best commentator on the beeb ,but it just shows even the best make mistakes .

This is where I don't get how backward, and two-faced, football is with video technology. City are supposedly appealing Kompany's red card from sunday. The red card was given on the day by the ref having made a decision in the heat of the moment, based on what he saw from his vantage point on the pitch. The FA will review the decision using video replays and slow motion. If it's OK to use video evidence fro the review, why not stick an official in the ground to do so, and get the decision right during the game, it seems to work for other sports. If the authorities insist on not using video reviews, then it shouldn't be used in appeals or to penalise things the ref doesn't see. One or the other, either video evidence is OK, in which case use it properly, or it isn't, in which case the ref's decisions are final!

If red cards can be rescinded retrospectively based on video evidence, what about goals which weren't given but were valid, or those which were given but shouldn't have been? What about corners that should have been goal kicks or vice versa, should they go back and replay the game form that point at another date?
With all the money in football it's astonishing just how backward it is when it comes to this kind of thing. How long has it been discussing and testing some system for goal line technology? I mean, cricket uses hawkeye in big games for key decisions, and there's barely a fraction of the money in cricket that there is in football, how the heck can football not have figured something out and implemented it already.

The answer to your question is that red cards CAN'T be rescinded retrospectively. Nothing that occurs during a match can. When clubs appeal against red cards in order to supposedly get them rescinded, what they are actually doing is appealing against the bans that players usually get for receiving red cards. A successful appeal will see the ban rescinded, but not the red card itself which still stands. A failed appeal on the other hand could see the ban increased. If the appeal is deemed to be frivolous a further match can be added to the length of the ban. Either way, the only thing that will ever change is the ban or the length of the ban. The red card itself will never be rescinded because the FA have no power to do so, just as they have no power to rescind goals or corners.

kompanys red card has been overturned so they are saying it wasnt a red card! i thought the rule was if u lunge at the ball with 1 or both feet even if u get the ball u cud get a red card unless im reading the wrong rulesHuh if the f.a. hav overturned that red then lets hope we see more tackles where if people get the ball they stay on the pitch!

But Kompany didn't lunge at the ball. He picked his moment and timed the tackle perfectly.

yeah i know he timed it perfectly im not denying that but he did lunge or the referee wouldnt hav sent him off in the first place wud he? the referee couldnt hav sent him off if he didnt think otherwise. if thats a perfectly timed tackle then there has been alot of red cards these past few seasons what shouldnt have been red cards then surely! y was that tackle different to alot of others what have seen red and not had theirs rescinded?
