Would Southampton have first dibs on him? I am very surprised that Wenger has more or less pretty much resigned himself to losing Walcott in January. Thev one thing I think we'll all probably be looking for most wil be the surprise signings that all have us going 'I never expected that!' I'd like to think 'Arry will offload a few to get one or two quality defenders to bolster our defence and also maybe a quality striker if he sells Taraabt to partner Cisse. But the overall question will be this:- Will this be a quiet transfer window or will it be hetic - or will clubs leave some deals to the last minute as always?

In what way has Wenger resigned himself to losing Walcott?
He has repeatedly said he wants him to stay, he has firmly said he will not be sold in january, even if it means he leaves for free in the summer. If he was resigned to off-loading him, I don't think he'd be starting him ahead of Giroud as he has been.

Quote from Wenger after yesterdays game "My desire is to extend his contract. He belongs here and hopefully we can do it."

Personally, I think Walcott wants to stay, and Wenger wants him to stay, but there is stubbonness from both sides. Wenger won't be held to ransom over Walcott's demands to play as a striker (even though that is his best position), and Walcott has understandably been concerned about the future direction of the club with other big names leaving.
With Walcott now playing regularly as striker, and with the recent signing of the other young english core of the current team, I think a contract will be sorted, even if it is only a relatively short one, say 2 years.

At the same time, Newcastle appear to have finally got Debuchy for 5.5 million.

I don't really understand why he would go to Chelsea though, is Ba and his agents really going to be happy rotating with Torres for a starting position?

Does this mean Lukaku could leave Chelsea next summer? He said a couple of weeks ago that he wants to play in the first team next season and I'm not sure, he will be given that chance to impress, whoever is in charge of Chelsea next season.

I don't mind Ba leaving and good luck to him, I hope he is a success wherever he goes, but I think its better for Newcastle that he leaves. It may give Cisse a chance again to capture his form from last season by playing through the middle.

We would still need to replace Ba though and I would love it if we could get Remy or any striker that could compliment Cisse's abilities. I love it if we got Douglas or Dawson, as another centre back and another midfielder.

After doing business in the January transfer window and by doing a little fantasy football, this is what I would like the Newcastle team to be like.

Debuchy should be a good purchase for you.

dan, i think you're being a bit hard on newcastle. arsenal had boxing day off, yous played on a heavy old trafford pitch, fitness was always going to play it's part, as it proved in the later stages. but to be fair, as an arsenal fan we needed that win! Smile

I guess I shouldn't be too hard on Newcastle, but I think we were more mentally tired than physically tired after trying so hard against Man United and eventually losing to last minute winner by Man United.

But you could also see in the last 10 minutes that we were a bit physically tired because the amount of travelling we had to do and again the two away games took a lot out of this depleted Newcastle team.

However, we caused our own problems in the last 10 minutes by taking off our two best players in Marveaux and Bigiriama. We need to learn how to defend better because I still a few of those goals, we conceded were avoidable. I actually thought when Arsenal brought on Giroud that it would give us a better chance of getting back into the game, but Giroud just caused us more problems.

But take nothing away from Arsenal, they were fantastic in that second half and in the end deserved their win.

Question for you mate:Why did Newcastle never renegotiate the Demba Ba release clause?

I don't know why to be honest, I don't know why there would be a release clause in his contract in the first place.

Maybe they did try and couldn't work out a deal to suit the club and Ba. Ba appeared to have his heart set on a move for a number of months now, so maybe Newcastle were unable to renegotiate the release clause.

I think I heard Pardew say, they were working on it and he's been saying it for a while now, so like I said above maybe nothing suitable could be done to renegotiate the release clause.
