I heard Liverpool are paying Madrid £5m to loan him for the season, if that's true it's no wonder Wenger didn't want to pay that

if liverpools offer was 300% more than arsenals and it's £60,000 then arsenal offered him £20,000. that seems a bit low but knowing wenger wouldn't supprise me. tbh we have 4 or five players like sahin, we need a lucas type player quick!

Sahin could be the difference between european cup football next season or not. If we make top 4, it'll be great business.

Well he certainly won't be at my club, which is AFC Wimbledon. But seriously, you have no idea of what Arsene Wenger's like. Arsenal could have signed Juan Mata last season but Wenger quibbled over the price and then Chelsea came in, paid the asking rate and that was that. It would be typical of Wenger to turn a deal for Sahin down on financial grounds, no matter how good the player is (and by all accounts he's very good).

Don't get me wrong he's a fantastic player, probably the closest you'll come to replacing Xabi Alonso. But £5m (if that's accurate) to loan a player for one year is extraordinary. It only cost Madrid £7m to buy permanently!

But fair point about if you make Champions League though.
Similar to if Man United win the league with RvP scoring 20+, it's hard to argue he wouldn't be worth his price tag

This is what the London Metro newspaper is reporting:

"Arsenal had agreed terms on a transfer with both Madrid and Sahin over the weekend, and manager Arsene Wenger had even spoken to the player on the phone to reassure him his development was in safe hands. But with just the formalities to complete, Liverpool stepped in on Wednesday evening and offered a significantly better deal, which Arsenal refused to match. It is understood that the Gunners had agreed to hand over a £2 million loan fee, plus pay most of Sahin's wages, only for Liverpool to trump that by promising a £5 million fee and to cover all salary and relocation costs."

If this story happens to be correct it seems like the Liverpool offer was even more than 300% of Arsenal's offer.
