The way Wigan are playing lately, I wouldn't be surprised if they stay up. They were very unlucky to lose today to two offside goalsBig Grin

they did play really well, it makes you think if they played like that all the time, they wouldnt be fighting relegation.

All they need is a goal scorer thats all, plus if they do get survive or relegated, I wonder if Liverpool would be interested in Martinez if Dalglish was shown the door in the summer

I said a few posts back that Everton would a great club for Martinez to manage if Moyes ever left, but I think he will manage a big club one day

I rate Martinez very highly and his style of football would be to Liverpool's liking, but it is a big step up from Wigan to Liverpool, so there would be a lot of pressure on him

I wouldn't mind Roberto Martínez, he's carried on the style of play he had a Swansea with Wigan but as you say it's a big step up & the big games at a club like Liverpool are a bit different to Wigan v Utd, Chelsea etc etc.

- How would his tactics stand up in the big games.
- If/when we get back in the Champions League would he have the tactics for a European game. He's Spanish & plays a continental style & formation so maybe.
- What sort of players would he buy given more money than he's ever had.
- Would he give our growing list of youngsters a chance.
- Would he stick to the now Liverpool tradition (I don't agree with it) of playing players out of position everytime they play.

When we played Utd, I can't remember if it was this season or the FA Cup last season but we never looked in the game & it was the same under Roy Hodgson, atleast under Rafa we played well in the big games & Martínez has the style to get us playing well but has he got the little in game tactics like Rafa (There's only one way to find out) I also don't think it'd take long for the players to get on top form as most of our squad would love to play the way his teams do. He'd only cost about £2m compensation & about £40,000 a week.

There is also Brendan Rodgers, Paul Lambert and the Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Kloop who would also be good options, if Dalglish was shown the door. But if Dalglish wins the FA cup, thats two trophies in one season, who knows the owners might give Dalglish another season. Also I hope Liverpool beat Everton in the FA cup semi finals, but for different reasons

I thought I'd chuck my 2pennies worth into the points you raised Mitchell.

- I think his tactics would stand up in the big games. He has, like you said, carried on the style from Swansea. Wigan at times play some great football, but it is hard because they can't compete with the players they've got. Given a chance at a bigger side he'd shine.

- As for the CL, sure, he will be naive in some respects, but managers only need to speak to players with experience or bring in a backroom member with some experience. Like you say he is no stranger to the European game. Mancini had a CL campaign to forget and he's plenty of experience. I guess time will tell in the respect.

- Don't underestimate a manager because of the budget he is restricted to. In fairness to Matinez he has brought in some half decent players and assembled a team still fighting. If anything with the budgets he's been used to his scouting knowledge would possibly be superior to someone who can just have the pick of the bunch. He'd be capable of finding a few gems.

- I think he'd give a chance to anyone who impresses in training. As long as the youngsters show promise I think any manager should play them. Again Matinez probably hasn't has youth players of a decent standard freely at his disposal. If he is at a club with decent prospects and a good academy I'm sure he'd use it to his advantage.

The type of players Martinez would buy would be flair players and ones that could pick a pass
