No, they both said they were disappointed and that they had wanted to win the Europa League. Alex Ferguson said there were no excuses. I think it's pretty obvious from the strong team lineups they put out that they were both going all out to win tonight.

Anyway, Chelsea now stand alone as England's only club in Europe. Spain have still got 5 clubs in.

Considering what's at stake for them domestically, I think this is only marginal despite the knockout.

Next season will show us wether the Premier League is falling behind other European leagues... From what I've seen of Napoli, Basle and the Spanish clubs they are way ahead of us

It terms of technical quality, the PL is definitely behind Spain, arguably Italy and Germany (I'd personally put it ahead of these two leagues). As a "brand", or whatever you'd like to call it, it's still the most attractive, even with the El Classico in La Liga IMO

The EPL is a brand and only really cares for that. The game in this country needs help from the bottom up. The facilities outside of the Premier League and Championship are poor. Instead of so much money going to EPL sides and huge parachite payments for relegated teams, the cash should be shared more evenly with the teams in leagues 1 and 2. Better facilities in the lower leagues, better set ups and academies with better coaching will benefit everyone related to football in this country, not just the fat cat cunts selling a "brand" .

I'd argue that point assuming the money was actually spent of said facilities and not paying off debts racked up by sugar daddies, another problem we have in this country!

Unfortunately if we put entertainment above tech ability we will never win a major international comp and struggle in Europe

I was more surrpised as to how united played. Bilbao played the far superior footie. I guess even Bilbao were just as surprised as anybody.
What are the chances of both Manchester clubs:- a) winning nothing at the the end of the sason and b) seeing both Mancini and Fergie resign as managers?

I couldn't agree more. I would like to see clubs in leagues 1 and 2
be able to compete on a decent footing with the PL ckulubs but have
decent facilities to produce the players of the future.

there's only one trophy both can win and thats the prem, one will get it because the closest team to united thats not city is spurs and there 14 points behind and they have been in free fall lately, so the chances of either team not winning anything a pretty slim to say the least.

SAF said he's continueing for a few more years but if mancini fails with not winning the only trophy left after all the money they've spent then surely he will get the sack ?

i reckon city threw that game last night realising that united had gone out, did you see how easy it was to break down sporting last night when they actually tried ? had they gone through they would of had an extra 5 games to contend with and they seem to be struggling at the moment and with fixtures they have compared to those of united they know the cant deal with the extra games.

most managers would be have been sacked after failing to beat basel and not qualify for the knock out stages of the champions league. mancini could be sacked after spending £200m+ and winning nothing.

there is one trophy fergie will never win thats the johstone paint trophy which is better than the champios league, fa cup, league, world cup, the tncf trophy and premier league put together. [/sarcasm]
