Not true. The UEFA Cup was ruined before Platini became president. He's actually done some good in tweaking the Champions' League qualification system so that it's easier for champions of small countries (APOEL) to qualify instead of non-champions from bigger nations. The slippery slope started in the late 90s when they started to allow non-champions into the Champions League and Champions League failures into the UEFA Cup.
The only reason why the big English clubs look down on the Europa League is because it doesn't make them as much money as the Champions League. Spurs this season are the perfect example.

Chelsea and Napoli was one of the best games I have seen this season, it was end to end stuff. This is what the Champions League should be about, tight and exciting matches not seeing Bayern Munich trash Basel 7-1. Well done Chelsea and Di Matteo
