peter cushing's dr who is nothing with the tv series, in the films he is human and a scientist who makes the tardis.

The Paul McGann tv movie was so bad hence no new series until 2004/05. McGann would have been a good dr if it was done with a better script, storyline and direction.

Cannot wait for this saturday evening.

Yes McGann has only had the movie and now the Night of the Doctor minisode as screen time, but has had arguably more time as the Doctor than any other 'Doctor' with his appearances in other media - mainly the Big Finish audio dramas. These audio dramas are open to debate as where they lie within the series continuity - but most Whovians agree they are within the line of progression of the show's adventures.

McGann has been a very good fit for the role. It's a shame he hasn't (yet) had as much screen time but being the Doctor is not just about being on screen. His contribution to the show's progression shouldn't really be in doubt - he is one of the main doctors in the Time War story arc (this has been covered in McGann's 8th Doctor audios and books) and that was undisputed, even before we saw the reveal of him regenerating in to the War Doctor played by John Hurt.

Peter Cushing as stated by winsaw and bigguy played a human scientist who made a time machine and nothing to do with or being one of the time lords. Also his film Dr Who & The Daleks is pretty much a remake of William Hartnell's early First Doctor dalek stories. There's been other 'doctors' who are also not considered part of the continuity - Rowan Atkinson in an unrelated comic relief mini episode, Richard E. Grant as an alternative 9th Doctor in the Scream of the Shalka animation webcast.

Can't wait for tomorrow night's special.

Those films aren't fantastically brilliant , but they're not completely unwatchable either.

Was great seeing them as a kid at a time when, even when Dr Who was still on TV in the late 70s/early 80s, the Daleks didn't appear much or that regularly, and the film ones look a bit more beefed up and impressive than the rather battered and aged props that Tom Baker was throwing his hat over the eye stalks of in "Destiny of the Daleks".

(And even though for some bizarre design choice in these films their weapons shoot steam like demented fire extinguishers.)

And the second film will mess with the heads of kids today who think of Bernard Cribbins only as Donna Noble's granddad ! (If they recognise him).

The BBC don't seem to be publicising it at all but The Day Of The Doctor is also going to be broadcast in 3D.
