So no National lockdown announced but for a lot of England it sure feels like, including my part of the U.K. (Greater Manchester) which is now in tier 4 & those areas not in tier 4 are now in tier 3.

Most intelligent people understand the need for restrictions and / or lockdowns and go along with them even if they'd rather not. It's the selfish arseholes (usually the ones with Football Club names in their Twitter Bio) who just don't give a toss. I'd be willing to bet they change their tune sharpish if their dear old Granny dies after contracting Covid.

Anyone suggesting that any level of deaths over & above that caused by old age is acceptable, is a Cunt.

That is the long and short of it!!. Todays numbers (allowing for info lag) are simply horrendous, and what is the biggest concern of some in the media?? Whether the premier league will be further impacted!! Not even a mention for other sports clubs and their employees that may be headed to the wall - of course not! Having said all that, NO SPORT is worth anything when set against further infection and lost lives.

It's an alarming figure, but it's important to not look at tomorrow, but the weekly average to gauge the severity of this.

Breaking records for cases everyday in Ireland now, over 1700 more cases confirmed. Back into full lockdown from tomorrow and schools to stay closed for an extra week too

I've just been reading that the only people who can go out and celebrate hogmanay this year are the over 80's who have had the double vaccine.

No!!! not even if they are able to.

Vaccine offers good protection against severe illness from the virus, but no data yet as to whether it can still be passed on to others. Parties on hold for now.

Exactly, don’t focus on one particular day’s stats. Look at the average

Well, as predicted, Boris and co. are making a right balls up of the vaccination programme.
Instead of the recommended 21 days between the two doses they are after extending it and giving as many as possible a single dose before beginning with the second jabs.
Seems like a plan right, get as many first doses out there as possible to give some protection and get things under better control, then start giving the top-up dose to give people the full protection. Except it doesn't work that way. The manufacturers are now weighing in saying that isn't how their vaccine works, that isn't how they trialled it, and they have no data suggesting this method works, ALL their data is based on a second dose 3 weeks after the first.

So, if this first dose doesn't give proper protection, and the second dose is given too late to back-up the first, so the recipients aren't fully protected, or maybe not protected at all, then the entire vaccination programme is potentially a waste of time, effort, and money. All because Boris and co seem to think they know better than the people who actually designed and manufactured the vaccine in the first place!

That's not to mention the logistical nightmare of vaccine centres now having to contact the first recipients and cancel their follow-up appointments, whilst trying to call in other people for their first jabs.

Total cock-up, completely unneccessary, just follow the damn instructions and do the job right first time idiots.

Not surprised, was expecting the government to cock up the roll out of the vaccines
