I was looking at the forum on Sunday morning because I could not watch the race live. Like you say perhaps it is best not to come in this thread until after the re-run. I do normally watch the races live on the internet but the link was down on Sunday so I had to wait for the BBC re-run some 7 hours later.

From the radio communications we heard, he made it absolutely clear to Rosberg to hold position, that Lewis was being held back hence he was slower, and that he was NOT to overtake.
Christian Horner by comparison, came on the radio saying 'come on Seb this is silly'. No command or instruction to hold position, more of a desparate plea to please do as I say. He left room for Seb to do as he did and claim he wasn't clear he shouldn't do it. It really calls into question Horners leadership of that team and how much control does he really have over the likes of Vettel.

Yes, that's a fair point. However it's seems clear, from what Webber said, the plan was in place before the race for that scenario so shouldn't have needed reinforcing over the radio. Once it became clear what was happening Horner should have been able stop it, though.
Interesting that Vettel makes no attempt to claim he wasn't clear about the orders and Webber makes the point that he backed off a bit to save the tyres and engine, not realising he was under threat from Vettel, so it was possible Webber could still have won in a 'fair' fight.

Ah, yes, you're right. He did slip that in there. I was thinking more about the BBC coverage, which is what I watched.

Yeah, it seems to be the case that a number of the teams have standing orders that they race until the final pit stops, then whoever is in front keeps that place (barring exceptional circumstances), it's been that way for a couple seasons or so for the likes of Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes, and probably others, and is often mentioned in the commentary, which makes Vettels claim not to have been aware of the orders very limp indeed!
As for Horner stepping in when it became clear Seb was trying to take the place, that is precisely the point Gary Anderson was making, Brawn was very clear and authoritative with Rosberg, but Horner wasn't with Vettel, which basically allowed him to do what he did, and gives the impression Horner was unable or unwilling to control him.

Looks like the politics have started anyhow. Webber's corner are this morning denying rumours he is threatening to quit Red Bull and not turn up in China. Seems like a good rumour to spread, as much as the RB top brass seem to like Vettel, it could pressure them to act to rein him in somehow, RB is stronger with Webber in the team alongside Vettel than if they had to get a last minute stand-in. Ultimately, the team championship is seen as the bigger prize than the drivers championship, and they need both drivers on board to win that again.

hqfooty usually works for me. Can be a bit choppy if your connection isn't too good, and the resolution isn't great, but I usually watch on my little netbook where the smaller screen compensates and makes it look OK

I agree munch1917, horner said something like your being a little silly seb, which to me isnt telling the driver not to overtake webber, were as rosberg who himself was pushing to overtake, was very strongly told not to do so and obeyed didnt like it, but to me shows him to be a team player, horner to me doesnt seem to be a strong team principal, and i would imagine wont come down to hard on vettel, cant wait for china should make for a very interesting race.

It was a good race today in China and it's interesting how Formula 1 has become all about strategy and tyre management.

Rumours are circulating that Mark Webber has signed a 5 year deal to drive for Porsche in their endurance racing effort...

Relatively easy victory for Vettel but a good race nonetheless.

Great stuff between Button and Perez. Not sure that's what Whitmarsh meant when he told Perez to be more aggressive, though
